Heather and Justin Community Helps Students Graduate The eighth-grade graduating class of Siletz witnessed strong community support during the recent moving-up ceremony and middle school dance. Thank you to all the parents, families, and community members who graciously gave your time. We couldn’t have done it without all of you working together as a team. Our youth celebrated in a drug- and alcohol-free atmosphere. The decorations and donations for the dance resulted in a beautifully decorated community center on Government Hill. The Hawaiian theme was evident: palm trees, beach balls, limbo, and dance contests. Raffle tickets allowed everyone to choose a prize from the gift table. Flashing lights and heart-pounding, soul-vibrating music (Limp Bizkit, Shaggy, Tootsie Roll, etc.) were provided by Ultrasonic DJ Services, expertly done by Brian and Justin! Dancers enjoyed the interaction when each DJ joined them on the floor. The decision to make this a combination sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade dance and include other Siletz students as guests turned into a roaring success. Why? Volunteers. The collaboration of community, parents, and adults to decorate, donate time, and chaperone the party was a coordinator’s dream come true. At least 16 volunteer/chaperones attended, as well as our Siletz police chief. Food was served throughout the party, and videos and photos were taken to capture memories. Thanks to the following businesses and individuals who donated food and supplies: Chinook Winds Casino, Industrial Welding Supplies, Franz Bread Outlet, Noel’s Market, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co., Siletz Valley Partnership, The Road House, Little Chief Restaurant, the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, Siletz Tribal Maintenance Department, Siletz Tobacco Prevention & Education Program, Lisa Brown, Kitti Hostler, Natasha Kavanaugh, Kelley Ellis, Lynn Whitlow, and Teri Watson. The Siletz Valley Partnership extends sincere thanks to everyone involved in making these special events possible. We applaud all the hard work and dedication on behalf of the eighth-grade class of 2001. Happy Birthday to the greatest daddy in the world on Aug. 23!
