The genesis of Air Supply began during an Australian production of “Jesus Christ, Superstar” in 1974. Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell both had obtained roles as apostles in the production. During breaks in rehearsal, Russell would sit by himself and play his guitar. Before long, Hitchcock wandered over and began singing along with Russell’s tunes. The two quickly discovered a smooth musical harmony as well as a friendship that would prove to endure over the years Singing at Australian coffeehouses, their soft, mellow tunes were competing with the norm of “hard rock” and “glam rock,” which were popular at that time. Russell supplied the name when they formed their own group, dubbing it “Air Supply” because he thought of their music as a “breath of fresh air.” Indeed it was and it was a hit. After the completion of “Superstar” in 1975, they joined up with Frank Esler-Smith, music director of “Superstar,” and Jeremy by TeresaSimmOns Jim Kikumoto Hired as General Manager Jim Kikumoto has been hired by the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians as the general manager for Chinook Winds Casino & Convention Center. He started working in his new position in mid-January. According to Tribal Chairman Delores Pigsley, he was selected as the general manager “because of his experience and background in regulation and the managing of other casinos.” The Gaming Board of Directors was particularly impressed with his style and leadership abilities. Kikumoto has held several senior management positions in Nevada as well as the Midwest. His experience is extensive in all areas of casino operations with a diversified background in management styles and philosophies. He has firsthand knowledge of all casino games, having worked on the casino floor himself at the beginning of his career. Kikumoto has served as casino manager of the Red Lion Inn & Casino in Elko, Nev., as well as Cactus Pete’s Resort & Casino in Jackpot, Nev. He has held the position of general manager at three casinos: Treasure Island Resort & Casino in Welch Minn.; Cactus Pete’s Resort Casino in Jackpot, Nev.; and most recently Prairie Knights Casino & Lodge in Fort Yates, N. D. Pigsley praised Games Director Jim Lorson and Advertising Manager Chris Steinbach for the marvelous job they did during the six-month period between June and January acting as assistant general manager and general manager, respectively. Chris and Jim accepted the challenge to run the casino as a team when Gordon Dickey left in July of this year. This allowed the Board of Directors to devote adequate time searching for a new general manager. They are to be commended for their leadership throughout this transition period.” Air Supply Paul. They signed a contract with CBS records and released their first big hit, “Love and Other Bruises,” in 1976, which went to No. 5 on the Australian charts.
