It’s Happening at Chinook Winds ... by Teresa Simmons Zuercher Named as Superstar Larry Dauwen Dauwen Named Regional Sales Exec. Chinook Winds Casino has hired Larry Dauwen as regional sales executive. A native of South Dakota, he traveled much of the U Tited States in his formative years. As an adult, he ventured oversees during a five-and-a-half-year hitch in the Marine Corps, spending part of his tour of duty in Japan. He has owned and operated his own business and managed several others, including STAGE in Lincoln City. Dauwen is a member of the Volunteer Firefighters and lives in Lincoln City with his family. When asked how he feels about his new position, he replied, “I’m looking forward to this new chapter in my life. I feel it will be a good challenge and adventure for rr 5.” Dauwen joins recently hired Kent Strickler, Joe Williams, Steve Chrisman, and veteran Sales Executive Martin Wheeler. This five-member team was hired to bring the usage of the 20,000-square-foot convention center, the largest on the Oregon Coast, to its highest potential. Director of Marketing Brenda Fisher stated, “With the sales team that we have put together, their variety of talent and combination of experience, we look forward to building Chinook Winds and Lincoln City into the convention destination of choice.” 28 Executive Host Carollee Zuercher has been chosen as the Superstar employee for the third quarter of 2000 at Chinook Winds Casino. At the Superstar luncheon held in October, Zuercher received $1,000, a plaque, and a star to be placed on the Chinook Winds walk of fame. To receive the Superstar award, an employee must perform his or her duties at a high standard of excellence on a consistent basis. He/she must exhibit above the norm internal and external customer service and be a team leader by example. Instances of exemplary performance must be documented. After a person is nominated for the award, the nomination goes through several reviews before the final selection is made. With more than 700 employees, and only four of these awards given each year, it’s a real honor to be chosen as the Superstar. Customers or co-workers can make nominations. Zuercher was nominated for this honor by a customer who wrote, “I lost my wallet with $2,500 in cash, credit cards, etc. When she saw me flying back into the casino upset, she quickly started searching and at the same time comforting me. She found the wallet under a chair in the high stakes room! She made me sit and drink some water.
