Neil Sedaka Set to Perform Singer/songwriter Neil Sedaka will perform at Chinook Winds Casino & Convention Center on Jan. 12 and 13. Sedaka’s sweetly resonate voice brought songs to teen-agers of the ‘50s and ‘60s that thrill many hearts yet today with memories of romance and innocence. Sedaka is a classically trained pianist who studied for eight years at the Julliard School of Music. Even earlier, at age 13, he began composing songs with his neighbor, Howard Greenfield. In four years, between 1959 and 1963, the songwriting team sold more than 25 million records. To their credit were chart toppers such as “Oh Carol” (written about his childhood friend, Carol King), “Stairway To Heaven,” “Little Devil,” “Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen, and “Next Door To An Angel,” recorded by Sedaka himself. Connie Francis hit the charts with their compositions of “Stupid Cupid” and “Where The Boys Are.” Following The Beatles’ invasion of the U.S., Sedaka retired from singing but continued to compose for other artists, including Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Tom Jones, and Karen Carpenter. Later in his career, the Captain & Tennille would score a big hit with his “Love Will Keep Us Together.” After 10 years in the background, Sedaka began to perform once again and returned to the limelight with “Bad Blood,” which hit No. 1 with Elton John singing in the background; “I Should Have Never Let You Go,” a duet with his daughter, Dara; and “Laughter In The Rain.” As the author of more than 1,000 songs, the accolades showered on Neil Sedaka have been numerous - induction into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, a street named after him in his hometown of Brooklyn, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Concert times are 8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, with ticket prices ranging from $30 to $45, depending on seat location.
