Siletz News Employment Opportunities Page 7 Current CTSI Job Postings JO B O P E N IN G JO B O P E N IN G POSITION: Mapping Technician Position Description: LOCATION: Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians Natural Resources Department, Siletz, Oregon Wage: $10.61 per hour SALARY: $24,533 annually Supervision: Head Start Director SUPERVISOR: Natural Resources Manager Location: Salem, Oregon INTRODUCTION: This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of an existing Geographic Information System which provides support for the entire Tribal administrative structure, with the majority of the work centered around natural resources. Employee is required to gather data from a variety of sources, including raw data collection using Global Positioning Systems in steep, rugged terrain. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Associate's Degree in Forest Technology or Cartography with one year of experience in computer-aided mapping, OR a high school diploma or equivalent and 3 years Of experience in computer-aided mapping. Proficiency in the u s e o f the following computer software: AutoCAD, ArcCAD, and ArcView. Proficiency in the use of ArcINFO or PC ArcINFO software may be substituted for proficiency in ArcCAD. Proficiency in the use of other Computer-Aided Drafting or GIS software may be substituted for any of the above if the software is similar in function and use to the above-listed software. Working knowledge of GIS concepts and fundamentals, including the ability to develop, organize, maintain, store, retrieve and manipulate GIS digital data to meet the needs of the Natural Resource Department and other Tribal programs. Experience in the use of GPS receivers and differential correction of data in order to collect raw field data for input into GIS system. The physical ability to ascend and d e s c e n d s te e p slo p e s arid' a w illin g n e ss to work in heavy brush and inclement weather is also required in order to collect the necessary raw field data. Familiarity with tiie use of aerial photos and with property legal description and surveying terminology in order to provide the necessary product outputs. Must be a well-organized self-starter, with the ability to communicate and work well with others to meet the needs of various Tribal programs. Must adhere to the confidentiality of information and individuals as described in the CTSI Manual and federal law. Must possess a current, valid Oregon State driver's license and insurance coverage. MAJOR DUTIES: Has primary responsibility for the maintenance and implementation of the Tribal GIS system. Provides mapping and GIS support to Tribal programs, with special emphasis on Natural Resources Department projects. Gathers and maintains information on all Tribal land holdings, including maps, aerial photos, legal descriptions, property surveys, acreage, present uses, important features, etc. Maintains all information in a comprehensive database. Develops appropriate base layers as needed. Obtains digitized map data from various government and private entities covering areas of interest to the Tribe. Digitizes data from other sources, including maps and aerial photos. Collects raw field data for input into GIS system using GPS receivers. Applies differential correction to data as necessary. Field data collection often involves long hikes on steep slopes through heavy brush in all kinds of weather. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Natural Resources Manager. OPENING DATE: 5/25/98 CLOSING DATE: 6/12/98 Head Start Home Visit Teacher (Seasonal - 39 weeks) M inimum Requirem ents: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or related field; -OR- Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education; OR a Child Development Associate degree. One year teaching experience (excluding practicum) in an early childhood educational environment (preschool, Head Start, kindergarten, or daycare). Must be comfortable working with people from a variety of social, economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. Must be able to establish and maintain ongoing relationships with families. Must be able to initiate contact with community resources to secure needed services. Must demonstrate a positive approach in guiding child behavior. Must display tolerance and sensitivity when dealing with children and families. Must demonstrate good written and oral communication skills. Must possess or be able to obtain a working knowledge of the Head Start Performance Standards. Must be able to work cooperatively with program staff. Must be able to accept direction. Must adhere to confidentiality of information and individuals as described in the CTSI manual and federal law. Must possess a valid Oregon Driver's License. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen. Must pass an Oregon Criminal History check. Must be screened for tuberculosis. M ajor Duties: Responsible to provide comprehensive Head Start services to 10 children and their families; primarily in the child's home, through intensive work with the child's parents and other household members. Provide one home visit per family lasting for a minimum of 1-1/2 hours each. Provide, at a minimum, two group socialization activities per month for each child. Complete a family needs assessment and assist families in identifying family resources. Make referrals and transport, or arrange transportation for families as needed. Encourage and promote the family's achievement of self-sufficiency. Encourage parents to attend Parent Meetings and transport them as necessary. Integrate all Head Start components during the home visits. Maintain Family Profiles with each family throughout the program year. Work with family to develop weekly home visit and weekly activity plans, based on child's assessment and identified family needs.
