This new financial arrangement allows for the enhancement of Chinook Winds w ith the construction of a parking lot on Logan Road and by remodeling the facility in anticipation of the I exp an d ed gam es. T h e S ile tz Tribe had submitted a land-use application with Lincoln County for construction of this parking structure on its Logan Road property, and it has been pending appeal. As of Friday, June 26, no appeals had been received by Lincoln County; therefore, the tribe can now move forward with their plans to construct a permanent parking facility on the property. The new financial agreement and our land-use approvalw ill shorten the expected time for construction by approximately six to eight weeks. According to Mr. Jacobsen, it is projected that Chinook Winds employees will make immediate use of this new parking structure. For the last two years, Chinook Winds staff have had to park in a gravel parking lot behind the casino on property rented from Mark Hemstreet. 'T m very pleased w e have reached this benchmark," said Pat Duncan, Tribal Chair. "The plan to provide our customers all the highest quality amenities at Chinook Winds is now much closer to realization." T Alice Werth, Elizabeth Norton complete terms BY CONNIE HOFFMAN S IH A Executive Director want to recognize Alice Werth and Elizabeth (Lisa) Norton for their years of service on the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. Alice and Lisa served more than one term - Alice was appointed to the board in 1992 and Lisa in 1993. Their terms ended on June IS, 1998. As commissioners of the Housing Authority, they helped guide us through the development of our apartment units and preparation of our Indian Housing Plan. th e y have been faithful in their attendance at board meetings and have shown courage in making decisions which uphold Housing I Authority policies, even when those decisions may be unpopular. While their personalities are quite different, they each made valuable contributions to. the Tribal Housing Program during their years of service on the board. I will remember and value Alice for her quiet, but firm support, particularly during times of difficulty, and for her readiness to volunteer to represent the Housing Authority at national and regional meetings. Lisa was more outspoken and was not afraid to challenge the status quo. She kept me on my toes by always wanting to have the most complete information that was available before making decisions. Their presence has made my job easier these past five-six years. A t the same time, f want j o welcome Wilma Strong and Dorene Rilatos as new housing commissioners. Wilma is one of our most-respected elders and Dorene is one of our residents. One of the nicest benefits of my job is the opportunity to work closely with a variety of Tribal members during their service on the housing board. The board members are my bosses. I look forward to working in partnership w ith the new board members in furthering housing opportunities for Tribal members.
