Mu nicipal Terminal No. 4. Beginning with the cereal year starting July 1. there was a general reduction of 20 per cent In all charges with the ex ception ox w nan age oi o ceum , wmcn remains uncnangm, ana o- age. together with sacking out. re conditioning sacked wheat and mis cellaneous charges, all of which do not take a discount. Pier storage has been reduced from XA cent to cent per ton per day. The above reduction In charges is made possible through economies which the com mission has been able to effect in Its operating costs during recent months. In connection with the increasing movement of grain Into Portland, from upper Columbia river point by water, and ever mindful of Port land's position as a wheat port, at the meeting the commission also in structed the engineer to construct as soon as possible a 'conveyor for unloading sacked grain from driver steamers and barges whlchr 'will greatly facilitate and expedite the unloading of river vessels. In addi tion to these Immediate plans for handling sacked grain, the commis sion Instructed the engineer to pre- 1 pare plans for a portable leg capable of discharging bulk grain destined to the elevator from barges or river steamers in order to be prepared to I handle this class of tonnage Just as soon as the demand for same de velops.
