ARCADE SHERRY'S a The European war-cloud has turn ed the thoughts of muny ingenious American minds to clever inventions. So it is ulong the lines of present-day inventive activities that the Pallas Paramount photoplay, "The Intrigue," that will be shown at the Arcade to day and tomorrow, tends. A young American has evolved a revolutionary invention an X-ray gun that kills by wireless waves at 25 miles, In a novel range-finder on the gun the dis-1 tant object is brought into a sharp focus. Then as the spectator watch-1 es, unseen electrical forces of great i potentiality are converged on the fo- j (.used object and in a flash it dissi-1 putes into atomic dust. Mo object can stand against its tremendous de structive powers. It is a startling phenomenon and a remarkable feature of this film storv 'of international intriguing that stars Lenore Ulrich. Hill Room 23 West Jacobson Bldg. Scotland Is Background of Stirring War Story. The humor and pathos of Scotch life on the plains has its part in the unfolding of the story of "The War Bride's Secret," the new William Fox picture in which Virginia Pearson is starred, at Sherry's today. The story of the film tells how Jean MaclJougal (Miss Pearson), a dairy maid on the extensive farm of Robin Gray (Walter Law), is loved by Gray and bv Colin Douglas (Glen White). Jean's father (Henry Hallam) en courages the love of Gray, and tries to force his daughter to marry him. At the outbreak of the war, Colin enlists. Before he leaves, he marries Jean secretly. Later the girl hears that Colin has been killed. She re alizes that she must have a father for the child for whom she has already begun to make clothes, so she mar ries Robin Gray. When the child is born, the wealthy farmer thinks it is his own. He does not realize the truth until the end, when Colin Douglas returns to the vil lage. He had been merely wounded in the war, and as soon as he can get away, he returns to Jean. Gray discovers the truth of Jean's relationship with Colin, and he leaves her with her real husband. "I've made provision that the farm goes to the bairn," he says. "God bless ye all." Ot JIM CORK SHERRY'S SATURDAY ONLY "The War Bride's Secret." Supporting Miss Pearson is an ex cellent cast of Fox olayers. Waiter Law and Glen White have leading roles, and Miss Pearson herseif has the only girl s part in the film. Tna photoplay was made under the direc tion of Kenean Buel. This is the story: Jean McDougal is a Scotch peasant girl, whom two men love. She marries one secretly, just as he is about to leave for the front. Then, when she hears that he has been killed, her father's insistence compels her to marry the other, Robin Gray. Robin thinks that the child, who is born later, is his own. The first husband, who had been only wounded, returns to the village, and goes to the girl's home. Robin, returning, realizes the truth. He de cides to leave the house, and allows I the girl to go back to her rightful Hit TruM lllll, U. & PU. There is a helpful article in the De cember American Magazine about get ting tired and resting up. The writer says: "The practical application of my illustratiorfis this: if vou have a job you really like, a job which commands your whole soul, you will work at it with less fatigue than if you are dis satisfied with your lot. This is whv the clock waboher, the chap who works only because he must work, is usually more tired at the end of the day than the fellow clerk who has a real inter est in what he is doing. "Moreover, if circumstances have forced you Into work that is not con genial you will find that efficiency can be aided and fatigue staved off if you will let your mind dwell on those fea tures of the work which you like best," SPECIAL 1000 POUNDS FIRST GRADE NEW CROP WAL NUTS WILL ARRIVE TODAY BY DELAYED FREIGHT SHOULD ILAVE BEEN DELIV ERED SEVERAL WEEKS AGO- .
