Lampkin, all business men of Pendleton, came In to day from Fly creek and upper Grande Ronde river points and left later in the day for their homes In Pendleton via the Toll Gate road. F. D. Brown, cashier of the First National bank at Miller, Neb., and wife and son "Buster" are visiting A. B. Cherry and family. Mr. Brown is looking over the country with a view of investing in some farm land. Miss Ethel Gulling left this morni'ig for Wallowa lake, where she will bo the guest of Miss Leona Wade and party. They will all return home next Monday. Mr. and Mrs. August Wagner, who have been the guest of the formers brother, J. G. Wagner, for some time, left this morning for their home in Columbus, Ohio. Commencing at 4 o'clock tomorrow afternoon the Missionary society of the Presbyterian church will give a lawn social and Ice cream social on the church lawn, corner Washington and Sixth street. If weather Is unsatis factory the refreshments will be ser ved in the manse. . Rev. W. H. Gibson left this morning for Pasco, where he will be joined by his brothers, Dr. Jas. R. Gibson, of Inman, South Carloina, and Hon. W. J. Gibson, of Campbello, S. A standing resolution provides for only six near beer joints. If the resolution stands, someone will have to dispense with selling the fluid. Those who have applied for licenses are: E. Thorson, Grant Lincoln, Ul- rlch Lottes, L. Remmlllard, Chris Wright, Julius Fisher and James Far-quahason. It is also license time In many other vocations. THE HARVEST ABOUT ELGIN. , Yield is Larger Than Usual, Condi tions Fair, And New Machines. The harvest yield for this year promises to be the very best in all the history of Union county. Many new and larger machines have been brought into the vicinity to care for the Immense crop, and every available machine will be kept running until late in the season, to care for the gol den harvest. Practically all of th fall-sown grain has been cut, binders and headers having been running for several weeks. So far no correct ac counts have been received as to the extent of the season's yield hereabout, but locally every product of the farm gives promise of an extraordinary large yield. Elgin Recorder.
