With seven applications for near
beer licenses already filed with Re
corder Cox and at least one more to
come of the one who is fartheset from
ezperiation presents another applica
tion, the council will have a rather
delicate task to perform. A standing
resolution provides for only six near
beer joints. If the resolution stands,
someone will have to dispense with
selling the fluid.
Those who have applied for licenses
are: E. Thorson, Grant Lincoln, Ul-
rlch Lottes, L. Remmlllard, Chris
Wright, Julius Fisher and James Far-quahason.
It is also license time In many other
vocations. Drays, poolrooms and
show houses will soon be due.

THE HARVEST ABOUT ELGIN. ,
Yield is Larger Than Usual, Condi
tions Fair, And New Machines.
The harvest yield for this year
promises to be the very best in all
the history of Union county. Many
new and larger machines have been
brought into the vicinity to care for
the Immense crop, and every available
machine will be kept running until
late in the season, to care for the gol
den harvest. Practically all of th
fall-sown grain has been cut, binders
and headers having been running for
several weeks. So far no correct ac
counts have been received as to the
extent of the season's yield hereabout,
but locally every product of the farm
gives promise of an extraordinary
large yield. Elgin Recorder.
