( HIS M LASH COMMITTEE ;wmg to an Amount of Business The fight between Ballinger and Pinchot and Newell promises to be come quite general and it may not be long until it is generally known whether or not the Roosevelt policy concerning the forest preservation and semi arid and arid reclamation is to be continued. Sx? Our irrigation project begins to as sume more gigantic proportions as de velopments urocoeds. Who would have thought a few weeks ago that there was 25,000 acreB of land south of the river that could be Irrigated by the Meadowbrook project. The amount is even greater for this 25,000 acreage does not Include an acre west of the . railroad track, another lateral cover ing this section would ad several thousand more acres. When the north ditch is run a similar surprise may be in store for us., During a previous mass meeting it was asser ted that a ditch running east on both lanes would provide water on the Bandridge to the E. W. Oliver farm and from there would cover quite an area. Instead of 15,000 acres us orig inally estimated by those In close touch of the project it may be nearer 60,000 acres. This Irrigation move ment Is by far the most Important step that has been taken in Grande Ronde valley since the securing of the allroad. KEEPS BUSY The financial committee of the fair association are busy again today en deavoring to raise the required amount for. the holding of the fair this fall. They secured a large amount, but there is still some work before the committee. It is thought that In the next few days, however, will see the $5,000 subscribed. The business men are responding ioyaliy to tne demanus of the committee and are subscrib ing generously. Cherry harvest is not finished, nor will It be for a week to come, as Earl Stackland at Cove has Beven or eight days work picking lamberts and shipping.
