i tlce ( Annul Fair. , The management of the First Eas tern Oregon District Agricultural ociety, wishes to announce that the county fair will be held this year at La Grande, beginning October 4th, nd lasting one week. Tbe sew catalogue will be out now 4a a short time, the cause ot the de lay o far has been due to the effort to get the Wallowa county people to Join us and combine the two fairs. The new catalogue will be practic ally the same as the old one, but with this exception, many of the premiums bave been raised and new features added, and also a large special list of premiums will be offered by the business men of La Grande. We understand that the Union flour mill will start up for its years run about the 15th. The prune crop Is not quite up to the yield of last season, but the qual ity will be much better as the size Is larger. George Hammon who leased the D. M. Rlsley raspberry tract has shipped hundreds of crates to outside parties Mr. K. J. Martin has about an acre of very early potatoes that will be a bumper crop. They are worth seeing, go and take a look at them. . Mr. Reddy, of Flora, Wallowa coun-- ty, has bought the west half of the Chas. Holmes ten acre tract in Mead ow Lawn, and will build a residence In time so his son can be on hand for the opening of the public schools. K. J. Martin has gone to Salt Lake City to attend the G. A. R. It is reported that the Hudson farm owned by the late L. B. Rineharb., has been sold, recently to some parties in Portland. There are over 400 acres of potatoes In the vicinity of Union this season that promise to be a bumper crop and the quality wll be first class. Pete Will started his steam thresher at the Keckrldge place Thursday. Mr. Kflokrldee's wheat went a little bet ter than thirty bushels to the acre. Walsslnger of Ninth street, who Is one of the adepts of La Grande at raising the city's em blematical flower. The specimens are well filled and exteremely pretty. Mrs. Wallslnger came to La Grande in 1862, and any movement for the betterment of its ulterior aspect has always been fostered by her, and raising asters is one of the steps ta ken by her to carry out the purpose of the Neighborhood club and other civic bodies for the beautlflcatlon of La Grande.
