Ore. i I'm- Av JV..I ' MAUD FEALEY While reading of Shakespear't heroines cf sixteen paltry years" who possessed all the fervor, and passion, and po se, and maternity of modern forty, the time and environment are taken into account, but there it of necessity much of interest in a tixteen year old girl of today who can play Juliet with tuccess before an Amer ican audience. Thit it what Maud Fealy has done and altho her playing o' Shakes pear't heroine was presented a fewyeart ago, the hat done much of value in her work since. She hat been leading woman with Irving, and it now appearing in a modern comedy and it all in all one of the most interesting young women on tbe stage. FLORENCE ROBERTS Encouraged by the cordial reception accorded Florence Roberts on her first appearance here, John Cort hat engaged an actress considerably lest known either in the East or West but in whose ability the Western manager hat much faith. Beatrice McClure is the young woman't name and while the it said to be one of Seattle's society buds, Mr. Cort believes she will prove as interesting to theatre goers as she is attractive in appearance. Beyond the amateur performances which form an adjunct of Seattle's social enter tainments. Miss McClure has had little theatrical experience. She has been en trusted with a part of considerable im portance in the comedy in which Max Figman will star this season. Miss Mc Clure is the daughter of a well known Seattle newspaper publisher end editor. Miss Roberts will be seen at Stewards opera house early in January. DARK I CROP (ticrlppe New Association) Louisville. Ky., Nov. 25.- Owing to '.he ! wet weather early in October, followed by a severe freeze on October the 10th a very large part of the dark tobacco crop, both in Kentucky and Tennessee, which was uncut on that date, is now re ported as an almost total loss. Agricult ural Commissioner Vreeland estimates the damage on burly from various causes at 24 per cent, while the yield this year only amounts to 66 per cent when com pared with other yeart. In the dark dis tricts reports indicate that the crop is damaged 30 per cent and the yield 78 per cent. SOIWAB IN KW YORK (Observer Hperlal) New York, Nov. 23 -Charles M. Sch wab and Mr. Abbot, a mining expert, have arrived here after inspecting mines in which they are interested in Nevada and California. AMUSEMENT A((0 ! fir 1 ..7:. p ; RELIGIOUS DRAMA Faith, that giant stronghold of the Chrittian belief, it eloquently upheld in Wilton Barett't intensely dramatic work, "The Sign of the Crost." The devotion and heroism of the early Christian! under the wanton cruelty and persecution of the Emperor Nero in Rome It presented with tuch striking realism in thit play, which brot it at itt first produc tion at once to the notice of clergy, church pe ople and ttudentt of religion. It has had for the years of itt enormous success the voice of the pulpit at itt ttrongest advocate, It hat had too, and ttill has the univer sal admiration of the theater going public. There ib no play in which the triumph of right over wrong it so nobly expressed. The ttory plays upon all the emotions and the consequence of thrilling incidents keeps the audiences in a state of h'gh ttrung attention and excitement. The scenes of the Roman court are rch and gorgeous in the extreme and all the costly scenes, costumes, armor nd ap pointments are presented with absolute fidelity to the requirements of history. The original London production of "The Sign of the Cross" will be seen at Stew ard's opera house, Tuesday. Nov. 27. The cast contains many prominent English and American players. 10 TRADE rrljjp News AsKOcintlnnl Now York, Nov. 23 -The special com mittee recotniiing the fact that the peo ple of all statts are interested in measur es designed to increase the consumption of American products abroad at a mtut ing today, decidi-d to call a National Convention to be held in Washington D.
