The country was one vast unbroken forest reaching from the Pacific Ocean to the Willamette Valley ana irom me Columbia River to Southern Oregon. And when these pioneer were in need of pr v ision, they had to pack tbem on horse Iwck, or even on tneir own nacn, over mountain trails and rushing streams for many miles.
