A search of Balliard's cloth ing revealed, in addition to tlio bat, a pistol, a short iron bar, three colls of rope and a number of cartridges. The man was later identified as a former inmate of the Michigan state prison at Jackson where he served a term for criminal assault. A notebook found ill Balliard's i-lntliinir contained addresses of a number of Detroit children and their ages.
