The law was passed by the leg- islature upon presentation of state- i raents that big business concerns are escaping their Just share of; taxation. It was claimed before the legislature that many business houses are turning in low assess ments, through the information given the deputy county assessors and that they are thereby escap ing taxes which they rightfully should be paying. . Because of this situation the legislature passed the law requiring the filing of statements which will show the full assets of each business, to gether with the earning power, so that the commission may accurate ly determine the actual ' value of each business. From these figures it will be possible, It was thought, to place business houses upon the proper basis for taxing purposes. The blanks will be in the' hands of all merchants of the county by the end bf this week. Assessor Calkins says, and returns must be made within 20 days after the re ceipt of the blank. The reports are to be kept confidential by the as sessor and the tax commission and will not be open to public in spection. BIG FIGURES IN MINING WORLD ENTER WEEPAH (Continued from page 1.)
