Canyouvlllo baseball players de feated Riddle on the home groundB at baseball last Sunday afternoon, lth a score of 10 to 7. Swarts, of Kiddle, pitched for the victors, while Alattlce, of (jleudalo, played, third with the Canyonville team. Cooper, of (Jlonbrook, was In the box for Kiddle, nnd the loss of the game was due to tho lack of support on the part of his team mates, which .vns only to be expected from their lack of fleasoned practice. Kiddle led oft with three scoreB In the first lining, alnutlng out Canyouvlllo un til the third, when errors on tho part of the Kiddle players let two men cross tho home plate. In tho next chapter, Canyonville by hard hitting counted four more. ' In tho sixth Johnny Cornutt landed a Herculean Jrlve over center field for a home run, and In the seventh Kiddle scored throe inoro, giving the home teuiu a end of one tally, 6 to 7. In tho jlghth chapter KlddlcB hope of win ning waa blaBted by a costly error .vhlch let In two more runs for Can yonville, and In the same Inning two more of the visitors crossed the pan, giving them a total of 10, while Hld Jle was unable to score again. In the ninth Inning Cornutt went I al the box for I'.lddle, and fanned three. No man should huvo been on i base In this inning, but fur Mellor. right fielder, dropping a llttlo fly which Cook batted into IiIb mitt. While baseball Is largely a matter of opinion, except for actual results of the game, there is no queBtlon in the minds of many that Elmer Coop er is some pitcher. Olvo III in the uinie support that Swarts had In Sunday's game and ho would have won his gume. Cooper Ib hard on tho catcher. Martin wus out of prac tice, and Cooper did not dare to put on the speed, which he has and to sparo. Local fans are eager to seo him pitch a gnmo with n stonewall behind the but. Ellen llollunbuugh Is tho baekBtop for Cooper, and If Itlddle goes to Koseburg next Satur day with that arrangement, With Will Willis and Klinmel also from the Canyonville team, their opponents will know that they have had a game.
