From Seal Rocks, The guests of Seal Rock Hotel gave a dance last Monday evening which will long be rembembcred by all present. Promptly-at 9 o'clock the orchestra started. Mr. W. II. Leeds and Mr. Mary Payton led the grand march, and uftcr several hours of delightful music and dancing the happy crowd dispersed. Tuesday evening a bonfire was the order. Mrs. Fro. Drowned. Rossland, B. C. Aug. 12. Harold E. Robertson, banker and real estate and Insurance broker, of Trail, was drowned in the swift current of the Columbia, In the presence of nearly 100 people, who were powerless to aid him. Captain W.J. Devltt, provincial olllcer, who was also In the captslzcd boat, saved himself, after swimming nearly two miles. The two men were In a canoe, and were caught In an eddy" Robertson could not swim, Devltt brought him up twice, but Robertson lost his presence of mind and tried to right the canoe, which overturned and sent him to eternity. Devltt was cairled two miles down stream until just abovo the rapids, whpp )e got Into an eddy and was saved, although com pletely exhausted. He was brought home on a horse, but Immediately took charge of two parties, who blasted the river all afternoon in an attempt to raise Rob ertson's body. The heat, excitement, and exhaustion were too much, and toward evening Devltt waa carried ! home unconscious. Robertson was the successor to the R.J. Bealy Company, at Trail.
