The young lady Is In her sixteenth year, and when in her normal health of an amiable, rather shrinking dispo sition, and possessed of no small claim to beauty, besides being in telligent and well advanced In hci studies. About three months ago she fell into a low melan choly state and displayed a singular aversion to all society, re fusing entirely to converse at tunes and exhibiting it sullen, an position when questioned monstratcd with. All food was rejected for several days, until a piece of freshly killed beef was accldently brought into her presence, when she threw herself upon it witli all the savage Igrecdi- ncss of a famished animal, and be gan to tear and rend it with her teeth, sucking the blood with a relish. Since then, at periods vary ing from three to seven days, she is seized with the same thirst for blood, and when brought In sight of it will drink it with avidity, in spite of all eflorts to restrain her. i-'uch eflorts are attended with much danger, for (luting these attacks she fails to recognize even the members Of her family and will snap and bite at any one attempting to molest her. Her entire appearance undergoes a change, her usually gentle expres sion becoming inhumanly ferocious, her eyes bloodshot and glaring, while her jaws snap furiously and sho keeps up a hideous snarling and growling. Her face becomes suf fused with blood and herliairbrisllis on her head like that'll un angr., animal. Once satiated with bioixl she falls Into a deep sleep, as if froi-i ! Intoxication, and on nvakoiilii0 ! seems to have no renieiuberatiiv whatever ol her singular attack, and is once more her quiet, ladylike self, only complaining of severe headache, which frequently lasts un til her next Mi.urc. Physicians who have seen her are atulostito account for tho cause of her malady, and luuo up to the present fahed entirely to relieve her. Hy the advice of several, attempts have been made to keep her from the sight of blood, but the result is so distressing that it Is n ..v thought best lo allow her to gratify her tin natuial thirst. Unable to do so otherwise, mIio attacked her own flesh, teaiing It withoti.any appar ent pain and sucking the blood. On another ouc.islou, when seem ingly herself, her attention was at tracted to a younger brother, who, having cut Ids hand, entered tho house for tho purpose of having the bleeding gash bound up. She instantly leaped across tho roon and without warning, seized boy's hurt hand in her month uit mm to tno none, n was only with tho greatest difficulty that she could bo made to release, him, and when finally forced to let go gave vent to her rage in hoarse cries, or rather screams, like a wild beast cheated of its pey. mi-, w.ivisaiid uii wile are per sons of education and lefluement, and profess themselves entlrelv un able to account for their daughter's strange alllletlon, as on both sides for generations there has never been any lutoinpuratieoor muiital disease. ,. ,c d-x or re,,,,!
