Page Four ffi w Oregon Trail Grang. Frank Sherwood was host to The Oregon Trail Grange No. 687 noon picnic. Sunday, July 17, 1977. Twenty mem bers and three visitors brought well-filled baskets of delicious food. They ate in Frank's yard in the shade of the Old Locust Trees. Three members made homemade ice cream. Nyssa Job’s Daughters Receive State Awards On June 15-18. the Inter national Order of Job’s Daughters of the State of Oregon held their annual Grand Bethel Session in Salem. Oregon. Eight girls from Bethel No. 33 of Nyssa were in attendance. They were: Whitni Morrison, Jac kie Chadwick, Kelli Mills, lr Teague, Karen Hutch-' it a. Jeanette Hutchinson. _rri Carpenter and Barbara Holmes. Chaperones were Mrs. Jan Mills. Mrs. Lynne Campbell and Mrs. Della Holmes. Everyone attended the meetings that were held. Also the Salem area Demolay sponsored a barbecue and a dance both of which the girls enjoyed. Two Nyssa girls received State honors. Barbara Hol mes, past honored Queen of Bethel #33, received the office of Guide of the Grand Bethel which is one of the top five offices in the state,' Jackie Chadwick. Senior Prin cess of Bethel 33 received a silver bowl for the "Best 6th Messenger Award” for her "j entry of "What Jobies Means To Me" poem. The girls had a lot of fun and plan to attend next year in Portland, where, hope fully. they will be entering the drill team and scrapbook competition. SENIOR CITIZEN ACTIVITIES President Lillian Meckem led 39 members and five visitors to the Salute to the American Flag at the Nyssa Senior Citizens meeting July 13 at the Legion Hall. The minutes and trea surers report were read and accepted. The nurses were there and recorded blood pressures. Mr. Haas was reported hospitalized in On tario. The Bingo Committee re ported that they are consider ing purchasing a new game. Virgie Rookstool was thanked for her contribution of the linoleum for the floor of the concession stand. Nancy Dunham introduced Anna Adams who is now working with the homemak ing department in the Refer ral Office. Mrs. Dale Witt provided some humorous entertain ment for the group. Chaplain Wyatt Smith clo sed the meeting with prayer. Everyone enjoyed the potluck dinner. Pinochle was in play during the afternoon. REBEKAHS MEET Yellow Rose Rebekah Lo dge held their regular meet ing July 12, with Rose Toombs, noble grand presid ing. Nineteen members ans wered roll call. Practice was held for the drill which will be given at the District meeting, July 26. Beatrice Lodge No. 82 of Ontario and Golden Rule Lodge No. 69 of Vale will also participate. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bachmann of Springfield, Oregon and granddaughter Deanna and La Vada Rey nolds of Springfield, Oregon came last Monday to visit Mrs. Bachmann's sister, Mrs. Hazel Schafer. They have been visiting the girl's Roll large scoops of vanilla or chocolate ice cream in salted peanuts. Serve with chocolate sauce. Make a tangy Pine-Apple Sauce: Mix 1 cup fresh or canned applesauce with 136 cups crushed pineapple. Spoon over ice cream. Makes IVi cups. Mix up a crunchy Peanut Sauce: Combine Vi cup butter, 2 table spoons flour and one cup water in saucepan. Cook until slightly thickened, stirring constantly. Add ¥4 cup chunk-style peanut butter. Stir to blend; remove from heat. Stir in 216 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar and b’end until smooth. Serve hot or cold on scoops of ice cream. Makes three cups.
