The law requires that these permits be obtained to comply with the Environmental Pro tection Agency law concerning discharge of polutants from livestock and poultry feeding areas. The new law requires that this permit must be ob tained by October 1 to be in compliance with the new law. This will particularly effect those livestock confined areas of 1,000 head of cattle or more, 700 dairy cattle, or 2,500 swine, 10,000 sheep, 100,000 laying hens or broilers, 5,000 ducks. The packet made available for distribution through the County Extension office con tains explanation of the law, the necessary permit requests, and a self addressed envelope with which to obtain the permit. Those effected by the new law are urged to pick up a packet at the Extension office in Ontario as soon as possible so they will comply with the October 1 deadline, Bain says.
