AUGUST 21. 1969 THE NYSSA GATE CITY JOURNAL, NYSSA, OREGON PAGE FOUR CLUB MEMBERS MEET AT McCALL ATTEND PICNIC Event Honors Kurtz Couple Members of Malheur World War I Barracks recently held a picnic in the Nyssa South park with 58 area residents from Adrian, Ontario, Vale, and Nyssa attending. It is also reported that the treasurer will have the mem bership cards ready for the September meeting. uCOMING EVENTS Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Kurtz were honored by their children at an open house Aug. 9 at the Presbyterian church in Ad rian. The occasion was in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary. They were greeted by 200 friends and relatives and 27 grandchildren. The grand daughters servedpunchandcof- fee and attended the guest book, while their grandsons attended the money tree. Mrs. Minnei Siebenberg of Notus had attended the wedding of Mrs. Kurtz’s parents 73 years ago, the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Kurtz 50 years ago and was present at their Golden anniversary. She also served the cake. Others included Mrs. Kurtz’s sister, Mrs. Anna Durnil; her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Eunice McLaughlin; Mrs. Verla Mc Laughlin, two of Mr. Kurtz’s cousins, Mrs. Ethel Handley and Mrs. Melinda Kurts. Mr. and Mrs. Kurtz were married in the Presbyterian church in Ten Davis on August 10, 1919 by Dr. W. L. Boone, then president of the College of Idaho. Pionaer Picnic Slated For Aug. 31 Tom Slaschner of Portland arrived Aug. 14 to go antelope hunting with his father-in-law, Dr. Olsen. It was reported that he got his antelope. Slas chner left Aug. 14 for his home. The Owyhee Pioneer potluck picnic will be held Sunday, Aug. 31 at 12 noon in the Nyssa South park. Present for the occasion were Mrs. Lillian Terhune, a daugh ter-in-law; Mrs. Glade (Mary Lee) Chadwick, a granddaught er; Jacqueline Chadwick, a great-granddaughter; and two of the honored guest’s friends, Mrs. Marian Childs and Mrs. Bessie Bair. They had lunch at Shore Lodge and in the afternoon Mrs. F rank Morgan served coffee and huckleberry pie at her cabin home. Mrs. Charley Davidson con ducted a tour of their garden. Various varieties of lilies were in bloom. Each member of the club was presented some vari ety of plant. The women also discussed plans for their booth at the Malheur county fair. The ANK women will also be in charge of the flower division registra tion. Next meeting will be Sept. 9 at the home of Mrs. Orland Cheldelin.
