THURSDAY, AUGUST 21, 1969 THE NYSSA GATE CITY JOURNAL, NYSSA, OREGON aaasaaaaassaaaaaaa®® Couple Feted KINGMAN KOLONY NEWS With Showers O-O- BY DALE -0-0-0- PHONE WITT KINGMAN KOLONY - Mr. and Mrs. Don Fox went to Boise August 9 and were overnight guests of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Thiel and family. They spent the following day in the forest near Idaho City. Mr. and Mrs. Shawn Moses and Sheila Thompson of Red ding, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Slippy and daughter of La Grande spent a recent weekend in the Earl Campbell home. On August 10 they all went to Kuna to visit Grandfather Martin who was celebrating his 78th birth day anniversary. Mrs. Jim Phifer spent the evening of Aug. 7 visiting Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Kurtz and family in Big Bend. Early this week Oscar Schafer was still confined to St. Luke’s hospital in Boise. He is reported to be recovering nicely, following recent sur gery. On August 10, he was able to be in a wheelchair. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Montague and sons of Apple Valley were August 9 evening visitors in the Myron Osborn home. Osborn’s parents, Mr.andMrs. J. R. Osborn and daughter-in- law, Mrs. Clairene Osborn and children were August 10 after noon visitors in the Myron Os born residence. Mr. and Mrs. J. J.Clemmings were August 5 dinner guests in the Al Thompson home. Mrs. Harold Jenkins and daughter of Westfall and Jay Kygar were August 10 dinner guests of the Earl Kygars. That afternoon Mrs. Earl Kygar, Mary Jarvis and Virginia Lin ville took cake and ice cream for a surprise birthday party honoring Mrs. Jessie Slippy in Nyssa. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hite also attended the party. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Geers of Oregon City were August 9 afternoon and overnight guests of the Al Thompsons. J a n e e n Kygar returned to Pendleton August 10 with Mr. and Mrs. John Kygar. Mrs. Charles Culbertson and Mrs. Earl Kygar took Mr. and Mrs. Tom Duncan’s two children to the Darryl Slippy home on Aug ust 9. They are staying there while their parents are on a vacation trip. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Phifer and daughters of Madras spent a recent weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bowers. Mrs. Phifer attended the 1942 class class reunion in the Adrian park. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ray and son of Quincy, Wash., were Aug ust 10 morning visitors in the Bowers residence. Jan Phifer arrived Aug. 8 by plane from Clarkston, Wash., to spend the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Phifer. She celebrated her birthday anniversary while at home. She left August 11 to resume her studies atClarks- Orma Cleaver spent Aug. 17 visiting in the Delbert Cleaver and Alva Goodell homes. Scott Goodell was an August 17 over night guest of his grandmother, Mrs. Orma Cleaver. The young visitor’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Alva Goodell. • * Aug. 11 to spend Arriving in the Reuben some time Haroldsen home were their daughter, Mrs. John Savage and their granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Rawls of Covina, Also arriving Aug. 11 Calif. were Mr. and Mrs. Jess Harold sen Joseph and David of Provo. They returned to their home on August 16. Jess recently re turned from a two-year stay in Iran. The Haroldsen family will leave about the first of September for a two-year stay in Australia. Other recent visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Haroldsen and Kristin of Boise and Mr. and Mrs. Orlee Sipes of Homedale. ♦ » * day anniversary. Stout and daughter, Norma, at Parma. ♦ ♦ * Mrs. Leland Fox and chil- dren of Boise called August 16 at the____ home __ of ____ her _______ mother, , Mrs. Bruce (Nellie) Jenkins to help the latter celebrate.a birth- NOW Former Nyssans Cifford and Ruby Green of Oregon City were August 3 overnight guests of the Al Thompsons. They were August 4 dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Gann. Also visiting the Ganns were Mr. and Mrs. Herb Cox of Sayer, Okla., and their granddaughter, a daughter of Gerald Cox, of Cherokee, Okla. They came to attend the Thunderegg Days activities. While here they also attended the annual Re bekah picnic. ♦ ♦ * Mrs. J. Elwood Flinders spent Aug. 10-12 at Burns. Mrs. Flinders, Janalee and Jeredee Wilson were Aug. 17 dinner guests of the Lorin Saunders family in Meridian. Joe and Brent, sons of the Saunders returned from a recent scout ing trip into the Salmon area. Joe, the Saunders’ foster son was kicked by a horse on the outing and received a double compound fracture. Mrs. Michael Krall, nee Jan ice Richards was honored be fore her marriage with several showers. Mrs. Earl Briles, cousin of the new bride, from Boise and Mrs. Bob Storm were hostesses with a linen shower at the Storm home. A miscellaneous shower was given by Mrs. Russell Nelson and the bridegroom’s mother, Mrs. Robert Krall. She was feted with a bridal luncheon and personal shower at the Wilton Jackson home, with Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Gary Mason of Klamath Falls as hostesses. Eight class mates and four mothers were present. She was given a white scrapbook in which each per son present wrote their “Advice to the Bride.” The women of the Christian church also honored her with a shower at the Elvin Ballou home, with Mrs. Ballou and Mrs. Ray Strickland as hos tesses. Before their marriage the groom-elect was given a sur prise personal shower at the Bob Storm home in Boise. The new couple wishes to thank all those who took part in the showers. Richesin Guests Return Home Mrs. Maybelle Tannler visited from August 9-13 in the home of her sister, Mrs. Eula Richesin. Also visiting in the Richesin home were Mrs. Panler’s son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Stone and Linda of San Diego. The evening of August 9 Mr. and Mrs. Bob Franklin enjoyed a barbecue dinner with Mrs. Richesin and her guests. Later in the evening callers were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Richesin and family and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Ellis. The group watched home movies. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Richesin and Traci, Mrs. Eula Richesin, Mrs. Panler and the Stones recently picnicked at the dam. They also enjoyed some boating. August 12, the Stones, Mrs. Panler and Mrs. Richesin were dinner guests in the home of the Bill Richesin’s. Linda Stone spent the week end with Vicki Franklin. Mrs. Panler and the Stones left August 13 , for Bishop, Calif., where they joined the two older children on a 60 mile hike with 35 Scouts. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. McCrady entertained recently with a pic nic for Janice and Jodi, Mr. and Mrs. Myron McCrady of Boise and Connie Bullard, Alan and Kristi. Mr. and Mrs. Dyre Roberts was pleasantly surprised Aug. 17 when Mr. and Mrs. Delno Brock of Ontario, Mrs. Edythe Prosser and Mr. and Mrs. David Krause of Nyssa and Mrs. Jim Carroll and daughters came with a beautiful cake and ice cream in honor of their thirty fifth wedding anniversary. Mrs. Dale Smith of Cortez, Colo., spent Aug. 13-17 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noel Tuppeny. Horace Chaney returned Aug. 13 from Del Rio, Texas. Jackie Slaybaugh and Tracy Boldon of Emmett spent a re cent weekend with Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shelton and Lona were Aug. 17 dinner guests of the Smiths. Mrs. Ray Cartwright is spending two-weeks with her PAGE THREE sister, Mrs. Josie Roadman in Springfield, Ore. Kerrick Bauman of Nyssa spent a recent week with Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Van Dewater. Mrs. Dyre Roberts called on Mrs. Claude Echanis in Ridge view on the evening of Aug. 17. Mr. and Mrs. PhilClucas and family attneded a picnic dinner Aug. 17 in honor of the Coul son family of Caldwell at the Persis Brumbaugh home. Mr. and Mrs. John Witty of Corvallis, her sister, Miss Rognhild Schempp of Stuttgart Germany and Anita Spears of Vale spent a recent weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Witty. The evening of Aug. 17, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Witty entertained for the Wittys and their guests, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Spears and family of Vale, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Witty and Carl. Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Chaney and family, Mrs. Horace Chan ey and Rosalie spent a recent weekend visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Chaney and family in Cove, Ore. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Van De water and girls of Fruitland were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Van Dewater. Mrs. Varner Hopkins, Mrs. Boyce Van Dewater and Mrs. Lester Campbell attended an Aug. 14 Mission Circle Fellow ship meeting at the home of Mrs. Alta Graham near Par- ma. The Notus Ladies were also guests. Mrs. Pearle Abbott and fam ily spent several days at Ter race lake. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Nel- son and family of Colorado Springs, Colo., are visiting her father, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Jen kins. August 4 visitors in the Jenkins home were her daugh ter, Mrs. Leland Fox and chil dren. * * • Evelyn Newman, Kay LaFay, Evelyn Wineke, Lit Stringer, Lucille Wilson and Mrs. Howard Myrick were July 30 break fast guests of Mrs. Wayne Plummer in Council, Ida. After breakfast they all went to Mc Call to pick huckleberries. * • * Meeting Delayed Because of the Durkee Dinner, the Treasure Valley Community College Board of Education has postponed for one week their August 20 meet ing to August 27, President Emery Skinner announced to day. No wonder it is hard to save money. The neighbors are al ways buying things we can't afford.
