Don’t be sorry, when it’s too late, that you didn’t do your very best. By W. L. McPARTLAND Every property owner has received his tax statement by now and is aware that taxes have increased. We feel that perhaps you would like to know why. The 1963 Christmas Seal cam paign will open Friday, Nov. 15, with the mailing of the seals to Malheur county residents. Volun teers have been busy obtaining the mailing list, typing labels and putting them on the envelopes. Members of the National Secre taries association from Nyssa, Vale and Ontario and members of the Emblem club have been doing the typing. Girl Scouts are doing the label sticking. Next week, groups from various wo- men’s clubs will stuff the enve- lopes. Steve Cox, president of the lo cal TB association, stated that he hopes everyone will welcome the arrival of the Christmas Seals by sending his contribution and by using the seals on all Christmas mail. “Many lives have been saved since the first, contribution was made for a Christmas Seal, but the saving of lives is not enough,” Cox added. “We are also continuing to wage a relentless fight against the suf fering, tragedy, loss of time and money that result from TB and other diseases that affect breath ing. Many of these other respira tory diseases are not only gravely harmful in themselves, but in crease susceptibility to TB.” The increase in school costs came about because (1) the budget was increased by $43,318 above last year, (2) the valuation of the school district dropped approxi mately $500,000 because of a lower inventory of sugar on hand at the sugar factory (This reflects a higher millage on the rest of the property), (3) loss of equaliza tion from the basic school fund. The total tax difference of $152,234 reflects the above costs. Money to operate our schools These will grow in length to 1500 feet before harvest is completed.
