Nyssa finished the season with a good per centage, defeated Emmett, the winner o f the Snake river valley pennant and won the title in the southern part of Oregon district No. 1. As a result o f her win in Malheur county Nyssa played Baker for the right to meet the winner in district No. 2 for the trip to Salem. The Nyssa Bulldogs were defeated twice in the play-off, but they made an exceptionally fine showing in the second contest. One fine feature o f the season was that never a word was said against the sportsmanship and spirit o f the Nyssa players. The Adrian Antelopes also gained their share of the laurels. Although a “ hot and cold” team during the year, the Adrian aggregation won the consolation at the district B tounament in North Powder and won the sportsmanship tro phy for the second consecutive year. A RECORD M A Y -B E Some kind of a record may be made for number o f days in ses sion by the present legislative as sembly. Thursday, the 60th day of the session, found the two hous es with ninety odd bills (and odd is the right word for some of them! still in committees. The record for length o f days in session is 66 made in 1939. The 1941 session was 63 days, and the 1943 session lasted 59 days. I f the session con cludes its biennial assignment in an orderly manner it will require three or four days of next week or until March 15, which would be a 67 day session. There have been over 725 bilk, memorials and resolutions intro duced at this session. It k esti mated that production of lard in 1945 will be only 2.4 billion pounds, compared with 3.25 billion pounds last year. Prior to the war at least half a billion pounds of used fats were poured down the drain each year, according to estimates based on sample surveys. The aim thk year is to save at least half that amount from American kitchens to be turned in to help win the war. As someone has advised. “ Don't clog both the war effort and your drains by pouring fat down the sink.” Charles E. Ogle, just appointed secretary-manager of Keep Ore gon Green association, is a long time forest fire prevention expert from Klam ath county.
