Pitting and showing the animals was demon strated. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Rinehart and children and Mrs. Dick Tensen of Nyssa called at the Dick Groot and Pete Tensen homes Sunday even ing. Pete Tensen Is threshing clover this wek. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Calson and niece, Millie Calson of Los Angeles. California were overnight guests at the C. M. Tensen home Monday. Glen Coopar and Dick Groot were business visitors near Vale Sunday. Kees Blocker of Ontario, Rickers Van Twisk of Valley View, and Pete Tensen were Sunday afternoon visit ors at the Dick Groot home. Mrs. C. C. Hunt and Mrs. Dick Groot attended the Guild meeting at the H. R. Sherwood home Wednes day afternoon. Mrs. Ersel Buess was on the sick list this wek. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bues of Vale were visitors at the Ersel Bues home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Otha Woodard of Texas, moved in the house on the Bues ranch this week. Dick Tensen left Monday for Surrmlt Praire. Marjorie Groot is working part time at the Atkeson’s clothing store. Pete Tensen attended a conserva tion meting in Ontario Thursday. Grandma Siam of Oregon Trail, was an overnight guest at the Bill Findling home Thursday. Dick Groot is combining grain this week. Web Pennie has been working at Vale this week. Grandma Stam of Or ton Trail Mr. and Mrs. Bill Findling and children and F:ed Kcopman were Sunday dinner guests at the Jak-1 Groot home. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lowler of Hous- ten, and Mr. and Mrs. Georg? Wright of Nampa were Sunday evening visitors at the John Lackey home. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Thompson and family plan to move to Ogden in the near future. Melba Friel attended Janice Frost’s birthday party in Nyssa, Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Ora Friel and fam ily and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Weaver of W ilder took a trip through west ern Idaho. They were in Garden Valley, Bear Valley and at Dead- wood Dam the middle o f the week Mrs. Luther Fife and Lila wer? in Weiser on business Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Ora Friel and fam ily »'ere picking cherries between Ontario and Fruitland Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Luray Trabert and fam ily were picnicing at the park in Payette. Sunday. They visited at the Dan Davis home in the afternoon. George Jensen was on the sick list this week. Lorrain Fischer is spending the week at the Frank Quigley home in Wilder. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Maxwell of W ilder were overnight guests at the Jake Fischer home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Glenn of Summit City California visited at the Rock Sheltcn home Saturday. Herman Rhode spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rhode in Caldwell. Betty Fife has the mumps. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Van Twisk and children were in Parma Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Toombs and Gordon and Dan Toombs were Sun day dinner guests at the Vernon Parker home In Adrian in honor of Mrs. Toomb’s birthday. M r and Mrs. C. S. Hale and fam ily of Grande Coulee were visitors at the Malcom Crawford home W ed nesday evening. Malcolm Crawford purchased a new car. I Mrs. G. D. Shaul and Ada Belle of Apple Valley were visitors at the O. H. Ragsdale home Monday. Udell Paulson has recovered from the mumps. Mr. and Mrs. Web Pennie and Dan were Sunday dinner guests at the Charlie Marshall home. Mr. and Mrs. Malcom Crawford and family were Sunday dinner guests at the Eldred Brower home in Nyssa. Lilly and Ruth Mathews attended a surprise party on Mrs. Seward at Apple Valley, Thursday evening. O. Z. Mathews is working at M al heur this week. Mr. and Mrs. Web Pennie and son, Dan spent the first of the week at Pierce. Idaho visiting at the Bill Willis home. Mrs. Harison Davis of Nyssa and Mrs. Web Pennie visited at the E. B. Laird home in Ontario Monday afternoon. —Cooking School Fri. - Sat.— Oregon Trail The Merry Matrons Club met at the home of Anna Whitman with Virginia Rookstool as co-hostess, Wednesday afternoon. July 9th The afternoon was spent doing embroid ery work for the hostess. Nine mem bers answeied Roll Call with a be- live it or not Item. In guessing con tests Jennie Benson and Gladys Byers received awards. Club will meet July 23rd at the home of La- Vinnie Smith with Margery Dorman assisting. Roll call will be answered by embarising moments. All mem bers are urged to have their 4-H Club quilt blocks there. Mothers club met at the school house Friday afternoon due to ill ness and extra work only 7 were present. Club will meet August 1st at the school house. Viola Adams will be leader.The topic will be “ What 4-H Clubs can do for boys and girls." . The 4-H club sewing girls will put on a style show. Lynn Snodgrass, dug and hauled potatoes for Torvald Olson last week. Mrs. F. G. Holmes visited at the A. M. Goodson home near Notus Mon day evening. Recent visitors at the H. H. W hit man home have been Mr. W hit man's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Whitman of Arlington, Washington. Mr. and Mrs. George Le? of Seattle, Washington and Mr. and Mrs. Elvan Hammond of War- rensburg, Missouri, cousins of Mr. Whitman. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Fry made a business trip to Ontario Thursday. F. G. Holmes and M. Atagi have been digging potatoes. Mr. and Mrs. H. Winters of K an sas arrived Saturday to visit with their daughter, Mrs. B. Hutcheson and family. Mrs. Marrion Chard, Mrs. F. G. Holmes, and Mrs. Lynn Snodgrass have been on the sick list, all are better at this writting. Bob Holmes purchased a new combine. He combined barley for F. S. Byers last week. —Cooking School Fri. - Sat — Arcadia Miss Jean Tannock of Portland, Oregon visited Mrs. George Moeller two days last week. Mr and Mrs. Bob Erwin and fam ily of Jerome, and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Dodge and family of Cald well visited their mother, Mrs. John Snow last week. Ira Ure started to dig spuds last week. Misses Wilma Bullard, Donna Matherly and Geneira Hipp were the delegates from Arcadia Sunday School who left on Monday with Mr and Mrs. R. G. Chandler of Cald well for Payette Lakes where they will spend a week with many Sun day Schools at Quaker. Mrs. Anna Dail is spending tills week with Mrs. Otis Bullard and family. Mrs. Hazel Hickey went to Elgin, Oregon where she expects to spend the remainder of her vacation, she plans to visit in Portland next month. Bert Marostica who is in training in Fort Lewis, Washington, visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Tony M ar ostica last week. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Payne are the parents of a daughter bom July 7. at the Hospital in Nyssa. M r Payne lives on the Ira Ure place and is employed by Mr. Ure. Harold Dail eft Monday for Port land where he will receive his ex amination for a years training in the army. Mr. and Mrs Ellis Warner and two girls returned this week from Mytrle Point, Oregon where they have visited the past two weeks. Y. A. school where he had scarlet fever. He spent the week end at his home. The Hall was decorated last week by representatives of the Worth Whil by representatives of the Worth While club as the Club expects to have two or three parties there in the next few weeks. The community is asked to be careful with the paper that has been used as we want it to last through the summer if possible. The Pleasant Hour club met Thursday at the Hall with Mrs. Buf fington and Mrs. Lila Mitchell as hostesses. Twelve members were rpesent. with two visitors, Mrs. Notheis and Mrs. Newgen. Paul and Don Rudolph and Lee Dudley all of Burley. Idaho are visit ing at the home of their uncle, W alt er Hill is. Sid Flannigan dug nine of his 30 acres of spuds and is now waiting for the price to go up. Ed. Stiner, Edwin Bergan, and Robert and Don Tasch left last week for Hermiston and wrote back that chances for work are very favorable. The Sunday school wishes to thank everyone for their coopera tion in raising money to send th? Sunday School delegates and also for the liberal donation of food. —Cooking School Fri. - Sat.— Kingman Kolony Pollyanna club met with Mrs. Wesley Piercy cn Wednesday aft- ernoon. After an afternoon of hand work the hostess served cooling re- freshments. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Lily Bach on July 23. Mr. Wesey Piercy was in Ontario on business on Wednesday. The Kingmn Girl Scouts are prac ticing their play every day and plan to present it to the public at the High School Gymnasium in Adrian on the evening of July 18th. Mr. and Mrs. George Lamberson o f Salem. Oregon arrived on W ed nesday evening to spend a few days visiting their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clark. Jean Clark who has been visiting with her grandparents since school was out returned to her home with them. On Monday noon Mrs. William Toomb entertained at a lawn dinner for her daughter Dorothy, who was celebrating her 14th birthday anni versary. Guests were: Emily Otis, Arlene Peterson, Erma Points of Ad rian, Porestine and Nadeen Wilson and Nadine Nichols. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilson were in Nyssa on business on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. William Toomb, Dorthy and Mr. C M. Beaumont were in Caldwell on business on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Wortman of Council. Idaho arrived at the par ental Raymond Holton home for a short visit. Their daughter who has been visiting her grandparents will \ return home with them. , Bible School opened on Monday ! morning at the Kolony school with m enrollment of twenty-nine. On Tuesday evening the King- nan, Christian Endeavor Society held their regular orchestra practice at the Kingman school after which the Kolony members entertained the rest of the group to a party. The A. N. K. Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. Carl Hill on Tues day afternoon in Newell Heights. Guests of the afternoon were Mrs Flier of the Richland distrlc, Mrs. O. C. Hunt of Nyssa. Mrs Harvey Otis of Adrian and Mrs. M. M. Cree ling of the Kolony. Mrs. Conrad Martin, Mrs. C. C. Cotton, Miss May Beaumont and Betty Jean Toomb visited the Bar rett and Stam flower gardens one evening this week. The Elliot Brothers started their threshing machine in the Kolony on Monday morning. The first to thresh are James Nichols and Charles W il son. Jewell Wilson spent Sunday as the guest of Maurice Judd in Newel! Heights. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pox of Chico, California and Mrs. Zona Cotton of Eagle spent Sunday visiting in the C. C. Cotton home. Frank Newbill and Artie Robert son of Nyssa returned on Sunday from a weeks fishing trip. Mrs. C. C.
