W e refer to a market ing association for our county farmers. News dispatches within the last week carry the information that the agricultural committee of the Senate has reported favorably on a bill to assist state departments o f agriculture in the promotion of farm marketing activities. To assist the states, $5,000,000 will be fur nished from the federal government for thè pur pose, the various state governments would not be required to match or contribute. The dis tribution is to be based on total population, pop ulation on farms and need o f the service. This is a step in the right direction, for what good will it do to use federal funds to increase farm production and then not do anything about marketing it. These marketing associations work to the benefit of the consumer as much as it does the fanner, by providing a steady flow of standard ized commodities to the markets. To the farmer it will provide an economical means of distribu tion for his product, which economy will be passed on to the consumer. The farmers throughout the county should make it a point to let the state department of agriculture know their sentiments on the pro posed marketing bill. Our Senators and Con gressmen should likewise be appraised of the importance o f this measure. That is the amount o f new, ordinary life insurance sold in the single month of May. It means that several thousand Americans have purchased half a billion dollars additional protection, to he paid them in the future when they need it most. It means that children will be educated— dependents left economically se cure— old age made happy and independent for workers. It means earned “ social security” — bought by a foresighted and individualistic people who are determined not to become wards of the gov ernment.— Industrial News Review.
