Grange News MALHEUR POMONA GRANGE Ray Gill, Oreg:n State Grange Master, was the main speaker at the Pomona meeting held at the Big Bend Park Thursday. A large group was in attendance with all Granges ot Malheur County having representatives present. Mr. Gill, handling the subject, “The Grange’s March" pointed out the progress of the Grange through 71 years of service to farmers. The speaker mentioned equal suffrage, free rural mall delivery, regulation for transportation, school land grants, Smith-Hughes, and exten sion service and other important projects that the Grange has spon sored. “The Grange now is strong er than ever with 22,000 members in Oregon with 370 active Granges,” stated Mr. Gill. Mr. Gill stressed the important legislative measures that will effect the Oregon farmer. The Grange at the present time is working for better rural education and is pioneering in the cooperatve movement in Oregon. W W. Jackson Lumber Company Nyssa, Oregon Master, was introduced to the greup and spoke a few minutes on new legislation affecting the farm er. The business sessions began at 10:00 A. M wth Pomona Master J. Edwin Johnson in charge. Officers of various Malheur County Granges reported. A resolution was passed to ask the state department to surface the highway from Adrian to the Idaho state line. Another resolu tion was passed demanding that the slot machines be removed from public buildings as provided by law The Boulevard Grange won the prize for having the best Home Economics Report for the quarter. The I O N. Grange won the prize for having the first report in. King- man Grange won the prize for hav ing the largest number of members and guests present. Dinner was served at the noon hour in the form of a picnic lunch. The hostesses were Big Bend and Kingman Granges. Pomona Lecturer, Mrs. M. M Greeling, had charge of the pro gram which was well planned. The Nyssa Band gave several musical numbers and group singing was en joyed. A group of ladies from the Oregon Trail Grange sang two numbers. TRI-COUNTY PICNIC August 15th has been set for the Tri-County Grange picnic consist ing of Baker, Grant and Malheur Counties at the regular meeting of place near Unity. Arrangements are underway by C. C. Ketchum, repre senting Malheur County for the program and recreational games. Grangers and friends are invited to attend this all-day affair. HOMEMAKER’S VACATION CAMP The Malheur County Homemak er's Camp is again called to the at tention of the Grangers. This camp will be held August 11-15 at the Ontario Kiwanis Club Camp at the Payette Lakes. Any woman in Mal heur County over 18 years of age may attend. No men or children will be permitted. Any woman in the county interested in making this camp get in touch with Raymond Larson, county agent in Ontario at once. ARTICLES LEFT AT POMONA MEETING The following articles were left at the Pomona meeting at the Big Bend Park. Owners may get in touch with Mrs. Joseph King, Big Bend Grange, Parma, Idaho: 1 Brown tan hat, size 7 1-8, a Roth schild from the Caldwell store in Nyssa and a white sumer hat, size 7. A ladies hat, tan with two-tone band, was also left. KINGMAN GRANGE - By Frankie D. Curtis The Home Economics Club of the Kingman Grange met at the home of Mrs. C. C. Elliott. Plans were dis cussed concerning the Pomona Grange picnic. Mrs. Harvey Hatch was a visitor from the Big Bend Grange and co-op-rated with us in planning for the joint picnic dinner. The H. E. C. have planned a very interesting program for each meet ing for the following six months such as sewing, the making of pic tures, baskets, pillow tops, home making, and a number of interest ing subjects. The next meeting will be with Mrs. J. K. Peterson August 3rd. Delicious refreshments were served at the close of the meeting. WILD ROSE GRANGE By Naomi Todhunter The Home Economics Club held their meeting at the home of Mrs. Ruth Antrim July 21, instead of their regular meeting date Thurs day, July 22, because of Pomona Grange. They have chosen "The Rose Bud" as the name for their club. After the meeting a lovely lunch was served by the hostess. The Wild Rose Grange held its regular meeting Saturday July 24th. A large crowd attended the Grange picnic held at the Antrim ranch Sunday July 18th. Ice cream and a picnic lunch was served after the gam:s which were planned for the group. SNAKE RIVER GRANGE By Mrs. Carl Bedsaul The Snake River Grange had their regular meeting Tuesday evening July 20th. After the regu lar business a delightful program was given under the direction of the lecturer. The program consisted of a vocal solo by Mrs. Claude Ogilive, report of 4-H Summer Schcol by Margaret Smith, report of 4-H local leader by Mrs. H. A. Conner, a vocal du?t by Antone Parkinson and Harvey Semple. State Master Ray Gill and wife were present and the group enjoyed an interesting talk from them. Re freshments were served after the meeting. OREGON TRAIL GRANGES By Mrs. Albert Hopkins One of the largest groups since its organization attended at the last regular meeting. Plans have worked out whereby the school district will allow the use of the school base ment as a grange hall. The new piano was dedicated to the grange after music from the H.E.C. The lecturer’s program hinged on 4-H club work. The five 4-H Club members that attended the Corval lis summer school were the high lights of the program and gave very interesting talks. Vance Smith talked on the Boy’s Class Work; Mary June Rookstool, Girl’s Glass Work; Dewey Thomason, Boy’s Re creation; Madonna Kressly, Girl’s Recreation; and Frankie Wilson, The Visit to the Ocean.. W. J. Wil cox and V. F. Livesay of the Oregon Grange Co-operative were present and gave instructive talks and ans wered questions from the group. Frank Sherwood of the Boulevard Grange introduced these men and gave a short talk afterward. After the program refreshments were served. The Oregon Trail Grange H.E.C. met at the home of Mrs. Frank Burke in their regular meeting. Howard Larson gave a talk on Aluminum.A large group of ladies were present. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Orrin Choat with Mrs. Choat and Mrs. R. Cornell as hostesess. Buena Vista News Our community was visited by a terrific wind and rain storm Sunday evening. The raim was extremely welcome as it settled the roads so we can drive without so much dust. The Chatter Box Club met at the heme of Mrs. Virgil McGee Wed nesday July 21. Roll call was ans wered by how, when and where we met our husbands. The majority of dub members were present and sev eral guests. Mrs. Bennett was in charge of the program. The hostess served delicious refreshments at the close of the entertainment. Next club meeting will be with Mrs. Jake Bartholoma August 4 with Mrs. Choat as program leader. Mr. Alva Ooodell and Mr. Frank Gray both of Meridian, Ida., were Monday dinner guests at the John Bartholoma home. They brought Dorothy June and Johnnie Barthol- rma home, they having spent a week with the Goodell children at Meridian. Mrs Chris Wyckoff and family were Sunday dinner guests and afternoon visitors with her sister and family Mrs. Coehrun in Nyssa. The Chatter Box Club held a pic nic in the park at Vale for their husbands and families. It was a get acquainted picnic for the new settlers.
