Heisey entertained with a party Thursday afternoon at the country home of Mrs. Eldredge. Three tables of contract were in play with Mrs. Dewey Ray and Mrs. C. L. McCoy winning the prizes. -5 - TUESDAY CONTRACT PARTY AT MITCHELLS Mrs. George Mitchell was hostess to the Tuesday Contract club this week. Enough extra guests were in vited to make three tables of cards in play with Mrs. Truman Medbury of Los Angeles, winning the guest prize; Mrs. C. L. McCoy, first for members and Mrs. Sid Burbidge, second. —5— MRS. MEDBURY IS HONOR GUEST AT TWO PARTIES Mrs. Truman Medbury of Los Angeles who had been visiting hed sister Mrs. Frank Hall was thei honor guests at a dessert bridge party given Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. E. D. Norcott, with Mrs. Norcott and Mrs. A. H. Boydell hostesses. Guests making up three tables of contract enjoyed playing in the cool basement. Awards at bridge went to Mrs. Dewey Ray for high score and Mrs. Howard Larsen traveling prize. Mrs. Medbury was presented with a guest prize. On Monday night Mrs. Hall en tertained for her sister, Mrs. Med bury with a party at her home. Four tables of contract were in play with Mrs. Artie Robertson winning high score prize and Mrs. Dewey Ray, low. Special prizes were won by Mesdames E. C. Norcott, Mrs. A. B. Heisey and Mrs. Malcolm Craw- fcrd. The hostess served refresh ments at the close. - 5 - MRS. MUCHO ENTERTAINS FOR MRS. WILSON Mrs. Elward Mucho entertained a few friends of Mrs. Lawrence Wil son at her home Wednesday after noon. The party was given as a farewell for Mrs. Wilson who is leaving Sunday to make her home in Seattle. Bridge furnished amuse ment during the afternoon with Mrs Dewey Ray winning high score prize. - 5 - PARTY FOR LOU ELLEN SPERRY TUESDAY Mrs. Macolm Crawford gave a party Tuesday afternoon for eight youngsters for Lou Ellen Sperry who vilsted at the Crawford home here from Monday evening until Wednesday morning. Games, shower baths and a lunch were enjoyed by the children. Those present beside the honor guest were Richard Pounds, Bernice, Jacke and Robert Bowen. Mary Norcott, Twylla Craw ford and Marilyn Crawford. BROWN COUNTY CHAIRMAN At a recent meeting of the Dem ocratic county cenjjral committee at Baker Lott D. E. H. BKUMBACH Mrs. Edna Farris, county nurse cf Ontario was calling in the Bend Wedensday in the Interest of the two clinics to be held in Nyssa Tuesday August 10 and August IT for all children who wish immuniz ation against smallpox. Mrs. B. M. Mlllsap a former Bend resident, now of Knox City, Mo., who is visiting her son in Notus, spent last week calling on former neighbors. Elmer Parker of McCall spent Wednesday in E. E. Parker home. F. A. Miller returned home Wed nesday evening from Omaha where he shipped his lambs Mrs. R. L. Haworth and Mrs. E. H Brumbach attended the regular meeting of Book Club held at the home of Mrs. M. L. Judd at Newell Heights Friday afternoon. Mrs. Ray Wilosn of Parma gave a very in teresting talk of her visit as a dele gate to the peace conferences held in the east during the past winter. Mrs. H. R. Otis gave a short report of the new book “Excuse it. Please." Mrs. T. M. Lowe was presented a Friendship quilt by the club mem bers and guests who have attended the meetings. Jim Miller accompained the Dan Holly family of Adrian on a trip to Bergdorff last week. Mr. and Mrs. Lester French and Jackie spent Sunday visiting in thp C. E. Peck and Wayne French homes in Boise. Howard Hatch took the Girl Scouts to Payette Lakes Sunday where they will spend the next ten days on a camping trip. M^. and Mrs. N. S. Phelan were dinner guests in the N. J. Robinson home in Roswell Sunday. Mrs. Howard Hatch was taken very ill Saturday evening. Her. mother Mrs. Wymer and sister of Parma are taking care of her. Mrs. George Fisher has issued in vitations for a miscellaneous show er, honoring Mrs. Helen Allender Orbendorf, a recent bride, to be held at her home Thursday after noon. LOWER BIG BEND Mr. and Mrs Harry Looney and sons are on a vacation trip. They are fishing in the mountains at Bear, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Russell and daughters were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Howell of Nyssa Sunday. Elolse Russell Is spending the week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Servoss in Nyssa. Mrs. Elaine Handsaker Pritchett county relief officer was in the Bend Thursday afternoon Mrs. Edna Flanagan Farris, county health nurse, was In the neighborhood Wednesday on busi ness. A large crowd attended the open ing of Saturday night dances at Big Bend Park last Saturday night. Nyssa Heights By MRS. EARL ANDERSON Mr. and Mrs. Robert Webster of Kansas surprised his parents Sat urday evening by making Mr. and Mrs. George Webster and family a short visit. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Shafer and children spent Sunday and Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Earl R. Ander son. Little Alvin McDermott was 6tung by what was believed to be a scorpln this week, but was more surprised than Injured. Mr. Gene Longer spent the week end with his grandparents of Fruit- land, Mr. and Mrs. Dollarhlde. The Nyssa Heights folks are very enthusastlc this past week watch ing the new electric line come near er their homes. The harvest Is In full swing with yields to date running between 35 and 40 bushels to the acre for wheat. Don Reardon and Wesley Pennie are combining most of the neighbors’ crops. KINGMAN KOLONY By MRS. C. E. ELLIOTT Mr. Charles Slaborn of Wendell, Idaho, George Moore and Mrs. N. A. Webb of Kimberly, Idaho and Mrs. Ella Bach of Long Beach, California have all been visiting at the C. C. Cotton home. Mrs. Cot ton returned as far as Weiser with Mrs. Bach where she spent the week end. Margaret Winters has been spending the week with her sister Mrs. Floyd Zesiger. Bill Elliot and Jack Waters left for Yakima Monday where they will be employed on construction work. The Young People's Society ac companied by Rev. Ecklebarger and Mrs. M. L. Kurtz attended a swim ming party In Caldwell on Friday evening. ' C. E. Judging was discussed and plans made for the exhibit at the county fair. The Elliott Brothers have started their threshing machine and expect to be busy for some time. Mrs. Ardt and two daughters and Mrs. Schultz all of Newell spent this week visiting In the John Thiel home. Mrs Ardt expects to locate somewhere near here. MISS FLORENCE RUSSELL The Vacation Bible School which was so capably supervised by Miss Margaret Brock and Miss Francis Shaver of Caldwell came to an end Friday with a picnic at the school house. On Sunday morning the children presented a program con sisting of work they had done the past two weeks. Dale Teter won a prize for learning the most Bible verses In the older class; Carol Wit ty and Dorothy Johannessen tied In the Primary class so each received a prize. Wilma Wilson received a prize for bringing the mcst members. The Big Bend Park was greatly favored the past week with three large picnics; the Pioneer picnic on Sunday; Pomona grange on Thurs day and Friday the Owyhee Sunday School enjoyed an outing there. Mrs. Wm. Stradley was In Nyssa Friday for medical attention. She is recovering from a sick spell. Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Patterson, Jr., and son Jimmy are visiting at the Zeb Wilson home Hugh Pearson and his mother left Saturday for their home In Neb raska. Hugh has recovered from malaria fever and has gone home to rest. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Munger, pioneer rancher and cattleman of Jordan Valley died July 19 at the home of Carlton Fretwell at Arock. The body was taken to Caldwell and funeral services were held Wednesday. He was buried beside his wife In Can yon Hill cemetery. Richard L. Munger was born In New York In 1853 and came to Col orado In 1870; four years later he came to Jordan Valley. He worked for the Bolse-Callfornla stage com pany about ten years and his stories of those days were very interesting. In 1884 he purchased a ranch west of Jordan and engaged In stock raising. About two years ago hls wife died and he has since made his home with Carlton Fretwell and family. Mrs. Fred Scott accompanied the Fretwells to Caldwell returning Tuesday. Purl Hardisty of Meridian was visiting old friends here Tuesday. Mrs. Regtma Panzeri and sons of Boise are spending a month with her parents Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Lee Tom L. Skinner left last week for a months visit in California. Mrs. J. C. Driscoll returned on Thursday from a short visit in Boise. A son was bom to Mr. and Mrs. William Panzeri July 19 at the Mercy hospital in Nampa. Mrs. Averlll Palmer and children visited Mr. and Mrs. Fred Palmer of Caldwell Thursday. Mrs. Damaso Eordi, Jr., of Win- nemucca is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Neal Shea. James Mills, Jr., was taken to a Boise hospital Wednesday by hls nelce Mrs. W. H. Helm. Mrs. Helm returned Friday and said Mr Mills stood the trip very well. Mrs. Helms neices Miss Ina Fry and Miss Ruby Somerville returned with her for a short visit. Domingo Yturri went to Boise on Thursday to meet hls son Tony, who was returning home for a short vacation after taking the bar exam inations. He plans on locating in western Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Edwards and daughter went to Ontario Sunday where Mr.s Edwards was met by her parents of Bend. Mrs. Edwards and daughters went on to Bend with them for a months visit. Mr. Ed wards returned to Jordan where he Is In charge of the bridge construc tion on the ION. Haying has been somewhat de layed by the rains of the past week. Some localities having regular cloud bursts. Jordan was treated to a freak hall storm lasting about five minutes. Some of the hailstones being as large as a walnut, fortun ately only a few fell. Saturday Miss Juanita Yturri, Miss Wemette and Louis Yturri and Ed Smith all of Boise drove to Jor dan to attend the dance and visit at the Yturri home.
