The boys, B ill (Mack) Rhoades, Tom Tronson and Marty Koch w ill be leaving for the Navy the end of this month A picnic was held by the Cadets at Cannon Beach A picnic lunch along with the cake was enjoyed A football game was held on the beach with the cadets against the adult advisors with the Cadets winning 12 - 0. “ One advisor, not mentioning names, but whose initials are Steve Poetter cracked three ribs during the game,” said the boys Elections were held with the following persons taking office for the following year: Lynett Weust, first Sergeant; Gary Lizzo, second sergeant: Clar ence Lamping, First Corporal; Brett Wuest and second Corporal Sonny Lamping Those attending were Brett and Lynett Weust, Bill and Bobby Rhoades, Sonny and Clarence Lamping, Randy Par- row, Doug Bates, Marty Koch, and Tom Tronson, all Cadets. Engagement Revealed For 1973 VHS Grad Howard Grimsbo wishes to announce the engagement of his daughter Kathryn Alene, to E ric Lynn Gunnell Gunnell is the son of M r and Mrs Walter M Gunnell of Tigard Kay attended Vernonia High School and graduated in 1973. She w ill be attending the Bry- man School this fall majoring in Medical Receptionist Gunnell is a 1970 graduate of Tigard High School. Since graduation he has attended Portland State Uni versity and Oregon State Uni versity, and w ill return winter term majoring in Pre Veter inarian Medicine. No wedding date has been set. B illy, son of M r and Mrs. W illiam (B ill) Horn, was born in Vernonia January 20, 1954, and has lived here most of his life. He attended School in Vernonia except for his senior year where he attended Central Valley High School in Spokane, Washington. Kip was born in Lebanon, Oregon and moved to Vernonia in 1960 He graduated from Vernonia High School in June of 1973. The two boys joined under the buddy plan and w ill be doing overseas duty in Korea. Noble Dunlaps Allend Family Picnic Sunday NEW ARRIVALS Mr. and Mrs. La Verb von Heeder became the parents of a boy, August 2 at 1:16 a.m. at the Tuality Hospital in Hillsboro. The name chosen was Alex Shawn and he weighed 7 pounds and 12 ounces at birth. Grandparents are M r and Mrs. La Roy Hepler and Mrs. Jack M iller of Vernonia. Great- grandparents are Mrs. Emma H tpler, Molalla and M r. and Mrs Elbizzati. Woodburn. Patricia Dejesus is the name of the new daughter of Mr. and Mrs Donald Cavanaugh born at the Columbia District Hospital in St. Helens. She weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces and was 20 inches long when she was born August 14. She joins a sister Julia. G randparents are Robert Goodman, San Jose. California and Eva Garza, Vernonia. The meeting w ill be held at the Children’s Services office at 7:30 on August 30, Thursday Re freshments w ill be served Possible areas of discussion could be, parent-teacher con ferences, scholastic under ach ievement, homework, athletics, and so on. The informal dis cussions give foster parents a chance to explore mutual trouble spots and ideas on what to do are exchanged. The public is invited to attend.
