We have school of co u rse' How’ By double shifting the high school building Basically the plan is to double shift the high school building, having the high school classes from 7:40 a.m . to 12 30 p.m and the elem entary classes from 12:50 p.m . to 4:50 p.m The high school. W ashington and Lincoln students will o p erate on this basis. If bus schedules can be worked out Mist will o p erate on a norm al schedule. The principals a re working out the details of scheduling, room assignm ents, etc. this week and we will have a plan of operation ready next week to present to you. H arry Culbertson. 75 years old retired blacksm ith and a r e sident of the Vernonia area since 1925. died at the F orest Grove com m unity hospital August 16 He had been hospitalized since suffering a fall off his home roof August 2. Funeral services w ere held at the Fuiten M ortuary Chapel. Vernonia Tuesday August 21st at 1:30 p.m T h e ’ Rev Russell Vinyard, pastor of the Vernonia Christian Church conducted the services with lodge rites under the auspices of Vernonia Lodge No. 184 AF and AM with in te r ment following at the Vernonia M emorial Cem etery. Mr Culbertson was a native of Altuna, Kansas and then moved with his family to Oregon in 1900 when they settled at Baker He received his education there and then attended the University of Oregon before serving in the arm ed forces during World War 1 He m arried Isabel Crawford at Kelso. Washington on Sep tem ber 17.1921 and they lived at LaG rande until moving to Ver nonia in 1925 Mr Culbertson w as the village blacksm ith at Vernonia from 1925 until he retired in 1965 He w as very active in fraternal affairs in the Vernonia area He w as a m em ber and past m aster of Vernonia Lodge No. 184 AF and AM; a m em ber of the Order of E astern S tar and the Royal Arch M asons: and m em ber and P ast Noble G rand of the V er nonia IOOF Lodge and a m em ber and past post com m ander of the A m erican Legion Post No. 119 and was a P ast district com m ander of the A merican Legion A few y ears ago he led a WILLIAM FILTER, former Vernonia resident and PCC co drive to rebuild the A m erican ordinator for this area, will be the new principal at the Watts- Legion Hall. * Warren schools. He worked on his D octorate at W ayne S tate Uni versity in Michigan and at the present tim e needs only the dissertation to com plete his D octors. In the fall of 1972 he went to work for PCC and w as em ployed there until his hiring by the Scappoose School D istrict.
