FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 1940 25 Teams Seek Championship Portland, Ore., June 17 (Special) —A record entry list of 26 teams will battle for the Oregon semi- pro baseball championship in a double eliminations tournament opening in Portland’s coast league It, July 2. Two game« will be played every night except Saturday and Sunday nights under the floodlights of Vaughn Street park. The Oregon champion will play the Washington winner for the Northwest semi-pro championship and the right to enter ths national semi-pro tournament at Wichita, Kan. Last year Silverton won the state and regional' titles and then ’finished third in the national tour nament. Ray Brooks, northwest semi-pro baseball commissioner, announced the first round pairings as ollows: July 2—Mantle Club vs. Molalla; B. & 0. Transfer vs. Mt. Angel. July "3—Sauvies Island vs. Gaston- Dairy Creek; Jack & Jill vs. Tigard. July 4—10 a. m., Portland Babes vs. Blue Lake Park. 12 noon, Can’by vs. Scapipoose. 2 p. m., Stayton vs. Battleground. 4 p. m., Bridal Veil vs. St. Johns. 6 p. m., Valsetz vs. Verboort. 8 p. m., Silverton vs. Reliable Shoe. July 5—McElroy’s vs. Tillamook; Albany vs. Sellwood. Medford drew a first round bye and wilt play its first game July 9 against the winner of the Mc- Elroy’s-Tillamook game.
