SOUTH EAST AND VIA Southern Pacific Route. 1 South p m la .23 p tn lo 15a m The prairie-lands of this county are good enough, bu the tide-lands and bottom-lands ' are not surpassed for fertility. 1 There is a great deal of fi :ie larch timber high up on the mountains which will be valuable for certain purposes after a while. Good grades of live stock are being introduced in the county, and ere long, Tillamook will 1 have many herds of fine cattle. A survey of Tillamook bay and bir will be made this summer in order to determine what : app opriations will be necessary. Pears grown here are as good as any on the coast. They grow to a large size, arc fi ic in apppcarance and never fail to bear. There are extensive cod-fish banksabout eight miles off Nestucca bay. though they are not ; frequented by fishermen at present. Nehalem bar is to be improved, and f’o.OOo has been appropriated for that purpose. Work will l»egin there as soon as practicable. There is not a Chinaman in Tillamook, and from the present state of feeling among the people, there is not likely to l>e one soon. Land may be had cheap now, before the rail road conics. There is a good cliarce, also, to make money by investing in town property. A life saving station is to be established at the mouth of Tillamook bay, though no lives have ever been lost by wrecks on the b?r so far. There were 1020 real estate transfers during 1R90. the total consideration of which amounts to <516 000. This is a great increase over the preceeding year. When the Wilson river road to Forest Grove is completed, there will be three wagon roads connecting the county with railroads 111 the Willamette valley. Oats yield as high as 100 bushels j»er acre on the prairie (lands, and even better on the rich bettom lands. They are of a fine quality, and almost as heavy as wheat. Peaches, apricots and nectarines will do well in the foothills in localities that are sheltered. Those who can grow these fruits will always be able Io sell them for fancy prices. There is but little green timber in the Nestucca country, but the settlers get good material for building from the dead fir and cedar timber i which is generally easily secured. North.
