| lighted with the pure, cold spring-water, which
• is found everywhere.
The Coast range of mountains rise to a height
of over 4000 feet in some instances. Mt. Hebo,
in Nestucca, is the highest.

The prairie-lands of this county are good
enough, bu the tide-lands and bottom-lands
' are not surpassed for fertility.
1 There is a great deal of fi :ie larch timber high
up on the mountains which will be valuable for
certain purposes after a while.
Good grades of live stock are being introduced
in the county, and ere long, Tillamook will 1
have many herds of fine cattle.
A survey of Tillamook bay and bir will be
made this summer in order to determine what :
app opriations will be necessary.
Pears grown here are as good as any on the
coast. They grow to a large size, arc fi ic in
apppcarance and never fail to bear.
There are extensive cod-fish banksabout eight
miles off Nestucca bay. though they are not ;
frequented by fishermen at present.
Nehalem bar is to be improved, and f’o.OOo
has been appropriated for that purpose. Work
will l»egin there as soon as practicable.
There is not a Chinaman in Tillamook, and
from the present state of feeling among the
people, there is not likely to l>e one soon.
Land may be had cheap now, before the rail­
road conics. There is a good cliarce, also, to
make money by investing in town property.
A life saving station is to be established at
the mouth of Tillamook bay, though no lives
have ever been lost by wrecks on the b?r so far.
There were 1020 real estate transfers during
1R90. the total consideration of which amounts
to <516 000. This is a great increase over the
preceeding year.
When the Wilson river road to Forest Grove
is completed, there will be three wagon roads
connecting the county with railroads 111 the
Willamette valley.
Oats yield as high as 100 bushels j»er acre on
the prairie (lands, and even better on the rich
bettom lands. They are of a fine quality, and
almost as heavy as wheat.
Peaches, apricots and nectarines will do well
in the foothills in localities that are sheltered.
Those who can grow these fruits will always be
able Io sell them for fancy prices.
There is but little green timber in the Nestucca
country, but the settlers get good material for
building from the dead fir and cedar timber
i which is generally easily secured.
