The INDEPENDENT, July 19, 2007 Letters From page 3 In my opinion you have brought this problem, at least partially, on yourselves. So quit crying about no volunteers. David A. McCoy Vernonia Principal supposed to lead by example To the Editor: I am puzzled about the issue regarding Mr. Miller. Unless I am mistaken, it is still against the law to use marijuana. A per- son in the position of principal of a grade school is supposed to lead by example. Breaking the law in such a way is not set- ting a good example. One of the boys interviewed in the Page 21 Did You Know… Oregonian said, “It’s just pot.” Evidently he doesn’t realize that it’s against the law. I don’t know Mr. Miller. They say he is a nice guy. That may well be true. But he broke the law and should be held accountable for his actions. The district fought for random drug testing on the students, what about the teach- ers? Mr. Miller said he was ashamed, well he should be. He should do what is right and step down. Gina Faber Vernonia From page 18 cards and cards to people with false identities. The changes will be implemented thoughout the summer. I received another notice from the Attorney General re- garding Oregon entering into an agreement with a Colorado firm that sells adjustable beds. The firm (Success Marketing, Inc. d.b.a. Craftmatic Beds) ad- vertised misleading price re- ductions, false health claims, and took advantage of elderly customers. The Attorney Gen- eral warns residents, especially the elderly, to be extremely careful when buying goods sight-unseen and to have someone with them when lis- tening to their sales pitch. For more information or if you feel you have been taken advan- tage of by in-home sale people you can contact the Oregon DOJ at 877-877-9392. On July 28, the American Council on Criminal Justice Training (ACCJT) and the Ver- nonia Police Department will be sponsoring a Drug-Free Family Movie Event at Hawkins Park. Besides showing a family-ori- ented movie we will have a BBQ and will be joining togeth- er as a community against drugs and celebrating together. More information will be posted in the near future on the city and police websites as well as flyers around town. Questions about Medicare and Supplements? What do PPO, HMO, PFFS, Medigap mean?
