The INDEPENDENT, May 6, 2004 Page 9 Bits & Bites By Jacqueline Ramsay Geeee – I’ve only been out of town for 10 days, but what a differ- ence it h a s made at the lake. There is a marked increase in the ex- panse of lilies in the pond. What I saw made my heart jump for joy. Maybe we have lost some of our berry patch but Oh! The beauty of the open space for lawn, picnic tables and play area for the public use. At least that is what I hope the space is for. No mini golf course, please. If ever the Se- nior Center can get started on their new center. Putting land back into useful beauty can only be a blessing to the town and the businesses in it. I really was not gone, just re- located for a spell out on Tim- ber Road. I’ve a question for the Coun- ty Road People. What is the speed limit on that stretch of road, anyway?? There are no signs to suggest a top speed but I know for a fact traffic is heavy and trucks cannot stop on a dime without skidding, es- pecially in the rain. There are so many driveways, mail boxes and dogs along that route. I would think it smart to have the speed limit posted. But who am I – just a gal that a log truck gave a shower to as I picked up the mail in the rain. I did not enjoy it. I tried to go shopping again, ho ho – I wanted a nice solid color cotton blouse for a pant suit. Stopped in Freddies, needed help of course – clerk says “Possibly a shop in Wash- ington Square.” Oh, yeah – I’m heading for the Dress Barn in Seaside. Nothing to do? How about a dish of ice cream. Sure – 10:30 a.m. — let’s go – the route – West on Bridge to Keasey to Stoney Point to 47 west to Peb- ble Creek Road to McDonald Road, down 47 to 26, East to Dairy Queen – west on 26 to Timber Road, back to 47 into Vernonia, down Bridge to the Lake and home. 50 miles, nice day, no nasty traffic, so I didn’t get to hear the Golden Oldies at the Senior Center for lunch. The ice cream was worth it. The scientific name for stinky feet is bromhidrosis.
