Page 16 The INDEPENDENT, Novem ber 21, 2002 Vernonia Cares needs turkeys and hams Vernonia Cares Food Bank is seeking 150 hams or frozen turkeys for the Christmas holi day food baskets. Last year, the Vernonia Cares Food Bank (with the assistance of the Ver nonia Catholic Church, the Sal vation Army and many busi ness and private contributors) provided food boxes for a Christmas meal for 95 pre-reg istered families. This year, the estimation, based on elevating statistics, has increased to 150. In addition to the meat, the food boxes usually contain typ V alley V eterinary C linic Electric). Regular hours of op eration for the food bank are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For oth er drop-off times, call the food bank at 503-429-1414 or Sandy at 503-429-9602. Vernonia Cares Food Bank is a non-profit organization and will gladly issue a tax-de ductible receipt to donators who bring food directly to the food bank.
