The INDEPENDENT, d u n e ^ 2 0 0 ^ Page 17 Obituary MELVINA A. WISWELL Melvina Ann Wisell, 62, St. Helens, died May 10, 2001. A memorial service was held May 14 at Columbia Funeral Home. Inurnment was private. Mrs. Wiswell was bom June 27, 1938, in Rapid City, S.D., to John and Dora (McGill) Masterson. She moved to Oregon and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1957. She had iived in St. Helens for 20 years. She was an aide in a center for people with mental and physical dis abilities, until retiring in 1992. She was preceded in death by four brothers. Survivors include a son, Troy Hockett of Jewell; a daughter, Corrina Kinkade of St. Helens; a brother, Gene Elsey of Hillsboro; a stepbrother, Leo Kuski of Coquille; three sisters, Bonnie Masterson of Hillsboro, Dolores Seifert of Deer Island and Dora Chammness of Minnesota; two step-sisters, Mary Dexter of Arizona and Edith Rhodes of Coos Bay; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Remembrances are suggested to the American Cancer Society. EARNEST L. GRAYSON Earnest L. Grayson, 52, Forest Grove, died May 15, 2001. A memorial service was held May 19 in His Church, Forest Grove Foursquare Fellowship. Mr. Grayson was born August 6, 1948, in Houston, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and then moved to Banks. He was a carpenter and heavy equipment opera tor through Carpenters Union Local 2130. In 1984, he married Mary Hiatt; they divorced, later remarried and divorced. Survivors include two sons, Brian and Russell; a stepdaughter, Bonnie Durham; his parents, Earnest C. and Ora; five brothers, Randy, Benton, Sandy, Tim and Nathan; a sister, Katherine Douma; his former wife; six grandchildren and two great-grandchil dren. Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. JANE I. SHUMAKER Jane Isabelle Shumaker, 84, Forest Grove, died May 12, 2001. Private Interment was in Forest View Cemetery in Forest Grove. Mrs. Shumaker was born December 31, 1916, in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone, to Robert and Aura Mario (Matos) Huntoon. She grew up in the Panama Canal Zone and graduated from Cristobal High School in 1935. She attended Goddard Junior College in Barre, Vermont. She worked for the U.S. Army in the Panama Canal Zone. She married Clyde Marion Shumaker in 1940. They lived in the Panama Canal Zone until 1942, when they moved to Portland. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970, and a son; Clyde M. Jr. Survivors include a son, Robert R.; brother, Hiram Huntoon of Rutland, Vermont; two sisters, Ethel Straub of Wallingford, Vermont, and Aura Erickson of New Port Richey, Florida; five grandchildren; eleven great-grand children; nieces and nephews. Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove was in charge of arrangements. JOHN P. MACAULAY John Paul Macaulay, 83, Newberg, died May 24, 2001. A memorial service was held May 29 in Attrell’s Newberg Funeral Chapel. Interment was In Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg. Mr. Macaulay was bom October 13, 1917, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He emigrated to Oregon and was raised in the Jewell and Carlton areas. In 1940, he married Elsie Porter. He served in the merchant marine during World War II, in the Pacific. In 1955, he bought Newberg Readymix, which he owned and operated until retiring in 1971. In 1976, he was elect ed a commissioner for Yamhill County and served one term. He lived in Newberg for more than 29 years until his death. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Don and Larry; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild. HAROLD CHARLES HASKINS JR. Harold C. Haskins, Jr., 58, died May 23, 2001. A memorial service was held May 29 in Abernathy Grange in Oregon City. Mr. Haskins was born September 22,1942, in Rochester, N.Y. He moved to Portland in 1956 and later to Vernonia. He graduated from Vernonia High School. In 1967, he married Jeannette Estep. He was a self-employed con struction worker until retiring in 1999. Survivors include his wife; a son, Barry; two daughters, Tammy Kale and Kathy Stambaugh; a sister, Charlaine Sheppard; and three grandchildren. Omega was in charge of arrange ments. EUGENE “BUD” W. WAGNER Eugene “Bud” William Wagner, 64, Beaverton, died May 22, 2001. Funeral services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Beaverton, with Bishop Thompson offi ciating. Interment was at Mountainside Cemetery in Hillsboro. Mr. Wagner was born July 17, 1936, in Salem, to Walter and Freda (Mires) Wagner. He grew up in Beaverton and attended Beaverton High School. He worked at Payne's Poultry before being inducted into the U.S. Army in 1956, then after his dis charge, when he returned home. In 1960, he married Dolores Pewonka. They moved to the family farm in 1963. He worked as a truck driver for Parr Lumber for over 38 years. At a promo tional competition, he once threw a 2 x 4 more than 93 feet, earning the nick name “Bud the Stud'. Mr. Wagner was a member of the North Plains, Banks and Hillsboro gun clubs. He was preceded in death by a son, Travis, in 1985. Survivors include his wife; a son, Todd of Beaverton; three daughters, Tamera Wagner of Manning, Tanya Gilke and Taya Harris, both of Beaverton; a brother, Glenn of Portland; two sisters, Carol Byerly of Beaverton and Raydelle Higgins of Aloha; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Donelson, Sewell and Mathews Mortuary of Hillsboro was in charge of arrangements. AUDREY R. COUSINS Audrey R. Cousins, 83, Scappoose, died June 3, 2001. Services were pri vate. Disposition was by cremation. Mrs. Cousins was born January 19, 1918, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Her maiden name was Reid. She emigrated to Portland in 1920 and attended Willamette University, then earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon. She was a regis tered nurse and lived in Eugene, Lake Oswego and Scappoose. She was a member of Lake Grove Presbyterian Church and the Blazer Booster Club. Her first marriage was to Dr. Philip Pemberton. In 1950, she married Wesley Cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Cousins in 2000. Survivors include her son, Scott of Scappoose; three daughters, Janet Pemberton of Corbett, Barbara Hilton of Jefferson and Elin Hayes of Vernonia; and eight grandchildren. Remembrances are suggested to American Cancer Society. Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens was in charge of arrangements GEORGE G. VAN NATTA George G. VanNatta, 94, St. Helens, died June 12, 2001. A funeral was held June 16 in Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens. Interment was in Apiary Cemetery. Mr. VanNatta was born January 19, 1907, in St. Helens. He graduated from St. Helens High School and Willamette University. He was a practicing attor ney in St. Helens for more than 50 years, retiring in the 1980s. In 1933, he married Irene Breithauapt. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1978. Survivors include three sons, Kay C. and Robert, both of Rainier, and Fred of Salem; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
