" ' 4 Community :. * ■ > ‘ The word must be out around the county about our terrific cook, because at our five-area luncheon on Monday the 27th, we were packed out with 69 diners. All were served a fine roast pork meal with all the trimmin’s. There were many favorable comments as people left patting their round ed tummies. Just think, we eat that way all the time. The sunny weather lifted spirits and brought out shop pers. We know it’s too soon to expect that kind of weather on a regular basis, but it sure is welcome, even briefly. The census people are winding up their faithful service and have helped several of us with the questions. I under stand that Oregon has made a good showing at responding to the census. Of course, we’re Oregon all the way! Jesus Christ Super- star slated at Pacific Jesus Christ Superstar, a musical by Andrew Lloyd Web ber and Jim Rice, will be pre sented by the Pacific Universi ty Theatre department on April 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22, at 7:30 P.M., and on April 16 at 2:30 P.M. in the Tom Miles Theatre. The play is directed by Pacific senior Brian Schneider. Jesus Christ Superstar is about the last three days in the life of Christ. The musical was written in 1969, and premiered in 1970. Tickets for the Jesus Christ Superstar performance are available at the door, or at the Pacific University Box Office and are $8 for adults, and $5 for students and seniors. Bernice is our secretary and very special to us, and we feel her loss. On this same note, please make note that Eric Olsen, Bernice’s son is the one deceased; our former chairman and my husband is alive and well. We ARE howev er, grateful for the concerns of those who mistakenly thought I was now a widow. Marge Trahan has recently been moved to Colorado to be near her son. The altitude change, however, caused some breathing difficulties and she was hospitalized. We have not had a recent update. The Golden Oldies have been faithfully entertaining us each Wednesday. They just get better and better. Too bad you can’t hear them...but wait! You CAN if you just drop by be tween lunch and about 2:30 on that day. While you're there, look around the craft center or the Thrift Shop for some good bargains. You can grab a pas try and a cuppa while you shop. We’ve been waiting for you for such a long time. Grange schedules rummage sale If tax day has left you want ing to use what pennies you have left wisely, or if your re turn allows you to splurge, the place to do so will be the Ver nonia Grange on April 14 and 15, when the Grange hosts a rummage sale. The sale will be at their hall on the corner of Washington and North Streets starting at 10:00 a.m. each morning and closing at 5:00 p.m. Items donated from other Granges in the county will pro vide fresh merchandise. The Grange will also host an Informational Grange Night on Monday evening, April 24 at 7:00 pm, for those interested in learning more about the Grange and what it offers. County Grange officers will be present, as well as a represen tative from the Grange Insur ance Company to answer any questions you may have. Burch will lead PEO for new year New officers installed at a recent meeting of the Vernonia Chapter of P.E.O included Pre- sodent Nancy Burch, Vice- president Mary Tolonen, Re cording Secretary Judi Gwin, Chaplain Diane Waltrip, Guard Carol Davis, and Historian Alvilda Hearing. P.E.O. is an international or ganization of women which supports educational opportu nities for women. At present, the Vernonia Chapter is spon soring five young women with help in financing their educa tion with scholarships and low- interest loans. P.E.O. awards a scholarship each year to a graduating sen ior from Vernonia High School. Classic “Velveteen Rabbit” at FG The “Velveteen Rabbit” will be performed at the Theatre In The Grove. The show will run April 14 and April 15 at 8:00 p.m., with a matinee at 2:30 p.m. on April 16. Margery Williams’ classic story of the stuffed animal who becomes a real rabbit through the love of a child, has been captivating children for over 50 years. Now this heartwarming musical, directed by Naomi Kinsman, brings some special toys to life as a child comes to terms with personal loss while achieving greater self-esteem. Preschoolers and parents are invited to at tend Story Time with Tracy on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. will be Family Reading Night, with families encouraged to use the library together. Book bags will be given to each family in at tendance. Mist-BRFPD board plans exec, session The Mist-Birkenfeld Rural Fire Protection District Board of Directors will hold an Executive Board meeting prior the regu larly scheduled meeting on April 11, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the library of the main station, 12525 Hwy. 202, Mist. The purpose of this execu tive session is to discuss em ployee contracts. The regular meeting will re sume at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., youngsters from Lincoln Ele mentary School will be attend ing a multicultural, dramatic story-telling session at the li brary. Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m., a video will be shown (either Ring of Fire or Steamwhistle Logging), and several local citizens will share their recollections and pictures of filming the movie in Vernon ia and of logging locally in ear lier times. Then, on Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm, Orissa Burghard will conduct an after-school story time for youngsters. Members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend any or all of these events, and to celebrate National Library Week at Vernonia’s new library. More trout w ill be stocked in Vernonia If you haven’t caught any of the first 5,000 rainbow trout put in Vernonia Lake in March, you still have plenty of time to try for some of the next 5,000.
