New teachers Julia Peter son, Ken Stacy and Gwen Coe were introduced. Peter son is teaching special edu cation in elementary school, Stacy is the technical educa tion teacher at Banks High School and Coe teaches high school business classes. BHS students set goals for 1995-96 Saturday, Sept. 23rd... After attending a retreat to help them focus on issues at the sch o o l, Banks High School student leaders have set five goals for the coming year. The s tu d e n ts ’ goals in clude working to raise school spirit and pride, accepting and tolerating everybody, cre ating new activities for stu dents at the school and en couraging more involvement in school activities. Gary Hartman, an educa tional testing specialist, pre sen ted a sum m ary of last year’s test scores across all grade levels. Copies of the summary are available from the district office. In o th e r b u sin e ss, the Board approved new policies related to student records and to the electronic commu nications network. The next regular board meeting is Oct. 9, 7:30 p.m., in the Banks Ju nior High School library. Courteney Schaefer present ed th is y e a r’s th e m e and goals to the board. The theme is “You gotta be . . with “Heroic Homecoming" for the homecoming theme. Stu dents will use action figure heroes to tie the theme to the homecoming festivities Oct. 23-27. Superintendent Will Duke reported that both enrollment and school s p irit are up throughout the district. Community activities un der consideration are adopt ing a highway, visiting nursing homes and delivering canned food to needy families. S tudent body president Courteney Schaefer present ed the new goals to the Banks School District Board of Directors at Monday night’s meeting. Once that is re ceived, the city will issue a re qu est fo r bids. P lans and specifications for the plant may be seen at City Hall. The council expressed as surance at receiving a grant for police service financing. Details of the service will be worked out when more infor mation is available. In other business: D • C ouncilor Judy C lifford reported that plans apparent ly are underway to develop a place for youth to gather un der adult supervision. Though no one seemed certain just who w as d e v e lo p in g the plans, it appears that local churches and volunteers will provide funding and staffing. • Ed Ohlman was appoint ed chairm an of the city L i brary Commission. • The council will meet in Executive Session tonight.
