Darlene Parrow announces retirement Darlene Parrow, daughter of Art and Enid Parrow of Vernonia, in a ceremony at Hanscom Air Force Base, re tired from 20 years of service in the United States Air Force with the rank of captain. Parrow enlisted in the U.S. Air Force following graduation from Oregon State College in Monmouth, where she ma jored in secondary/physical education. She received her basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and w e athe r training at Chanute Air Force Base. W eather o b se rvin g and forecasting became her ca reer throughout her years of se rvice as a n o n-co m m is sioned officer until 1983 when she was commissioned as a second lieutenant. In 1987 Captain Parrow’s military decorations include the Meri- torius Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Com m endation M edal with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Achievem ent Medal, the A ir Force O u tsta n d in g Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Organi zational Excellence with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Good Conduct Award, with two oak leaf clusters and the N a tio n a l D e fe n s e S e rvice Medal with one bronze star. she achieved the rank of cap tain. Her retirement culminat ed a ca re e r th a t in clu de d to u rs of duty at T ravis A ir Force Base, California, Kun- san Air Base, Republic of Ko rea; Vandenberg Air Force Base, California; England Air Force Base, Louisiana; Scott Air Force Base, Illinois and Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts. Parrow has received many commendations for her work in tactical weather observing systems, both as a non-com m issioned and a co m m is sioned officer and for her con tribution as a distinguished coach in athletic programs, being inducted into the New Agenda Northeast, Women's Hal, of Fame. Parrow plans to resum e her academic pursuits at the University of Massachusetts to obtain her masters degree in education, then to a sec ond career in education and coaching.
