N aturopathic m edicine is a method of healing which in corporates the use of natural ingredients such as light, air, water, herbs and diet to main tain good health. Hutton has spent twenty - tw o ye a rs in the m edical community, beginning as an orderly in various hospitals in California and Oregon. Com pleting his education as he worked, provided hands-on exp e rie n ce in the m edical profession and, as he m a tured, his interest was drawn to “traditional” medicine in stead of “conventional” medi cine. Traditional medicine uses natural means to remedy ill ness or injury, while conven tional medicine uses pharma ceuticals and manufactured methods to obtain the same results. Conventional medi cine is the system most wide ly used by doctors in our soci ety. In recent years, however, traditional medicine has be come accepted as an alterna tive form of health care. Hutton admits that, in his early years, he was som e what reb ellio us as he pu r sued naturopathic medicine. However, as he gained more knowledge and experience, he realized the conflict be tw e e n th e tw o form s of medicine really didn't exist. Hutton attended school in C alifornia before coming to Oregon to attend the National College of Naturopathic Medi cine, one of only two such colleges in the nation to be Dr. James Hutton acknow ledged by the U.S. Department of Education. Af ter completing his education in 1992, Hutton jo in e d Dr. T uresk in his M ist fa m ily practice. Hutton chose Vernonia for an office partly because the convenient location allow s him to continue serving pa tients from southwest Wash ington in addition to those from the Portland and Salem areas. This, along with the beauty of the area, made Ver nonia his choice. Hutton also said he enjoys a place where you can leave your car un locked and find it's still there when you return. Dr. Hutton will be offering his services in the Vernonia o ffic e on T uesdays and T hu rsd a ys from 10-5 and Saturdays from 10-1. At other tim es, he can be reached through his answering service at 503-241-5352. Carol Noah has been ap p o in te d m anager of U.S. Bank’s Vernonia branch, to fill the vacancy left by Betts En- neberg’s retirement. Noah will be doing double duty as she divides her time between the Banks’ branch of U.S. Bank and the Vernonia facility. During the past two-and-a- half years, Noah has m an aged the Banks branch, offer ing professional service and learning the needs of local businesses and citizens. As banking p ra c tic e s have changed over the years, she strives to offer all of the mod ern improvements while re tain in g the persona, touch that lets customers know they are more than a docum ent that’s processed in triplicate. Noah started as a te lle r and w orked her way up through the positions of per sonal banker, savings coun selor, investments, loan offi cer, operations officer and, fi nally, to manager, a position she has held at three different banks. In order to make the transi tion a bit easier, Enneberg spent some time showing her around the community, intro ducing her and filling her in on some of the local history. C om bining the B anks and Vernonia branches under one m an ag er is pa rt o f U .S. Bank’s strategy of downsizing the company. Noah w ill spend at least two days a week in the Ver nonia branch, with one of the days being either the begin ning or the end of the week. She reminds those who may fear chaos at the lack of a full time manager, that the bank already has a very capable staff and that she is ju st a ph on e c a ll aw ay if she is needed. In addition to her ex perience, Noah brings an ea gerness to serve the banking needs of th e com m unity. Noah, who grew up on Pumpkin Ridge, says she is very familiar with small com munities and, in fact, hopes to soon make her home in one; at this time, she lives in Cornelius. She is treasurer of the Banks Area M erchants A s s o c ia tio n , is a c h a rte r member of Day Break Rotary Club of Forest Grove and is in v o lv e d in the J u n io r Achievem ent program . She a lso p la n s to be com e in volved in the Vernonia Area Chamber of Commerce. W hile cha ng e has been constant in N oah’s career, she re c e n tly u n d e rw e n t change in her personal life, too, when she m arried Jim Noah in April. This is a posi tive note not just for the new lyweds, but for the people of Vernonia as well; otherwise Carol Noah would have taken her place as the fourth Carol Davis in Vernonia. Clean Pointe takes over carpet cleaning service as J-4 leaves Jody Jones, owner of J-4 Professional Cleaning Sys tems, has returned to Indiana to assist in the family busi ness, but not without arrang ing for another carpet and up holstery cleaner to service the Vernonia area. H ailey, w ho is based in Portland, has operated Clean Pointe for seventeen years.
