Kearney, with a broken finger on his left hand, entered the game and on his first play threw a 61 yard touchdown pass to end Otis Taylor. But Kearney, who was voted tlie game's outstanding back, had a pass intercepted a little later by Jolinnie halfback John iMcCormick, who ran 4 yards to make the halftime score U-13, in favor of tlie Panthers. Beckman Best Miners took his team on a in die second half, with the quarterback capping tlie drive by throwing a 23 yard pass to Hardy ' Reyerson. Then t h e Johnnies scored again when Beckman, named the game's most valuable player, hit end Ken Roering. the outstanding lineman, on an 18-yard aerial. Prairie View rallied in the fourth period, scoring twice on a 14 yard pass from Kearney to halfback Douglas Broadus, and on a one yard plunge by Ezell Seals. But the Panther TDs were sandwiched around St. John's clincher a 19-yard Beckman. a senior, carried the ball 10 times for 62 yards, tossed a touchdown pass and caught three aerials for 32 yards. OSU Splits Two Games With Bears BERKELEY (UPI) Oregon State's basketball Beavers evened their series with Califor nia Saturday night by taking a 61-49 victory. Oregon State now is 5-1 for the season and meets Indiana this coming weekend in a two game set. Friday night Hi Cor vallis and Saturday night in Portland. Big Mel Counts led the Bea vers with 17 points in Saturday night's game. He was held to two field goals Friday niglit when California upset the Beavers 65 55. The hot-shooting Beavers hit 55 per cent from the floor de spite a hard pressing Cal de fense. Oregon SUite took a one point lead five minutes into the game and never relinquished the advantage. Camden Wall, one of t h e Bears' sharpest shooters, was held to one field goal during the evening, a two-pointer that came in tlie last minute of play.
