Howard Guentluier represent ed several local residents with a request for additional side walks, curbs, and gutters on Alma Street, and it was grant ed by the council members. W. I. Barlow, Mount Shasta merchant, appeared before the council to ask relief from en croachment of the bypass high way now under construction west of the city. The bypass comes within a few feet of the Barlow home, which was built many years before the highway was considered, and the road way stands about two feet high er than the front yard. I t- L-J. ...... ... . - WASHINGTON (UPK-T h e kidnaping of Frank Sinatra Jr. is one of four out of 678 inves tigated by the FBI since 1932 wliich still are unsolved. In June, 1932, Congress passed w hat is popularly know n as the Lindbergh law which had the effect of allowing the FBI to help investigate kidnaping cases. The law made it a federal crime to transport any persons across state lines to hold them for ransom, reward or for any other purpose. As originally written, the law provided that it could be as sumed the victim had been tak en across a state line if no trace of him could be found seven days after tlie kidnaping. On Aug. 6, 1956. this section was amended to make tlie waiting period only 24 hours. This change was made short ly after Peter Howard Wein berger, a one-month-old baby, was kidnaped from his home on Long Island July 4, 1956, and later found dead. His kidnaper was convicted and executed. There was some feeling at the time that the FBI might have been able to apprehend the child's abductor more quickly If it had not been restrained from entering the case for seven days. Earlier this year, Atty. Gen. Robert Y. Thornton said public school districts providing part time education for parochial students were entitled to basic school aid for the extra student load. In the regulations adopted Thursday, the board made it clear the public schools had the right to determine class sched ules at public schools. In several areas of the slate, private schools have adopted the policy of sending students to public schools for certain classes not provided at the pri vate school. Adoption of tlie rules was held over to Thursday to allow sev eral public school superinten dents to appear before the board to outline problems in "shared time" with non-public schools.
