Food Drive Aids Needy The Holy Nome Society of the Kingsley Field Chapel will col lect canned food for the needy durint; the Christmas season. Tw o barrels, located at the base commissary and the base liiea tre, will be available to deposit the cans. On the nicht of Dec. 19 tliere will he a '"li;ht up for Christ mas" drive in Falcon lleiphts. At this tame, each house display ing a porch light is expected to contribute a can of food. A Kiddee Matinee is also scheduled at the base theatre on Dec. 21 at 3:30 p.m.- Admission will be one can of food. The matinee will feature nine cartoons. Tri-Community Choir lans Sunday Concert The Tri Community Choir, 'composed Of vocalists from the Merrill, Malin, and Tulelake areas, will present Handel's "Messiah" on Sunday, Dec. 13. The oratorio was first pre sented two years ago in Merrill by interested members of the three communities, and proved so successful that it was decid ed to organizo a choral group again this year. Clothing Results Doubled The community's donations to Iho anniLiI Church World Serv ice clothing drive were dou bled this year, according to the local chairman, Uoss Ragland. Dec. 17, at 8 p.m. in the church basement. A special program has been planned, including group carol singing, and there will be I brief business meeting. All women of the church are invited to attend and bring a friend. Hall. Dinner will be $1.25 for adults, 75 cents for children 6 to 12. and no charge for chil dren under six. Mrs. George Smalley w as se lected chairman of the dinner committee. The bazaar commit tee includes Mrs. Perry Haley, Mrs. Charles Johnson. Mrs. Emma Wilson, and Mrs. Bess Ann Smith. The itinerary includes five churches in Oregon and Washington. Assisting the director, David Ham, right, with the preparations ere two of the choir's officers, Nancy Os trum, vice president, left, and Beulah Welch, president. 22 Baptist Youth Choir Members Comolete Plans For Concert Tour The 22-vnice youth choir of the First Baptist Church will leave Dec. 18 on a five-day concert Imir which will take it Irom Mcdlord, Ore, to Van couver. Wash. The tour will be financed by Hie music and youth depart ments of the church and by in dividual contributions desig nated for tour purposes. Planning Hie itinerary and the program of sacred music is Hie choir's director, David Ham, a three-year resident of Klamath Falls who studied mu sic at Georgetown College, Gcoriytown, Ky. He also serves as director of music at First Baptist. Dennis Coleman will accom pany the youth choir on Its lour. A sophomore at Klamath Union High School, he is the prayer before his record 22.9 orbit space flight last May. He finally gave up. Then, near the end of his ac tual flight, a prayer came to him spontaneously, and he said it into the tape recorder of his capsule. Faith 7. He repealed Ihe humble prayer later when he addressed a joint meeting of Congress that honored him. Tlie prayer, he said, "doesn't stand as a significant prayer in design quality, but it was my prayer and 1 meant it." Cooper told the story before a meeting of the Nalional Meth odist Council of Evangelism in Louisville, Ky., where he re ceived a medallion from tlie World Methodist Council. R1 ! Christmas Cantata Set Song and the spoken word will be woven together to pre sent an unusual adaption of the Christmas story at Hope Lu theran Church on Sunday. Dec. 15. at 3 p.m. Under the direction of Jackie Backlin. the Junior Choir and the Cherub Choir, composed of children 4 years old through the second grade, will join the Senior Choir to provide tlie musical highlights of the Christmas cantata entitled "A Song Unending." William Hagerman will be the narrator, and Mrs. Hager man will accompany the choirs at the organ. Soloists in the Senior Choir are Pat Isensee. Linda Sorlien and Robert Sorlien. with Susan and Shcryl Michaelson as tlie Junior Choir soloists. The program will also fea ture a flute trio made up of three members of the Junior Choir, Bonnie Dodaro, Debie Sorlien, and Marsha Pechman. Pastor's Home Toured By 120 An open house was held at the newly acquired parsonage for the assistant pastor of the Bible Baptist Church on Sun day afternoon. Nov. 24. Located at 5370 Harlan Drive, the four bedroom home now oc cupied by Rev. and 'Mrs. John Fenderson has been extensively remodeled. After a brief service of dedi cation conducted by the pastor. Dr. Freeman Schmitt, the par sonage was shown to some 120 guests by the assistant pastor and his wife. Refreshments were served following the tour. They represented the coun cil's 31 constituent denomina tions, major Protestant and Eastern Orthodox bodies with an aggregate membership of 40 million persons. President Flemming was also elected vice chairman of the councils General Board, the policy-making arm of the body between triennials. The Special Youth Conference Staged By Klamath Stake A special Youth Conference, sponsored by the Mutual Im provement Association of t h e Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was held Nov. 16-17 at the Ferguson School for LDS young people from the Southern Oregon and Northern California area. The conference activities were directed by Joseph Stiickling and Ida Stewart, Klamath Stake leaders. Approximately 475 youths at tended the opening program on Saturday evening. Following dinner, a play entitled "Free dom of Truth" was presented by the Grants Pass Ward of the LDS Church, featuring speeches MYF Holds Elections CHILOQU1N The newly or ganized Youth Fellowship of the Chiloquin Methodist Church has elected officers for the coming year. Micki Wolff will serve as president, with David Van Wormer, vice president; Sher ry Lough, secretary; Candy Freid, treasurer; and Paul Oh lund. MYF fundleader. Adult leaders for the group are Mr. and Mrs. Ron Harrison and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ohlund. The fellowship has a mem bership of 35 teenage youths and an average attendance of 20 to 25 at each meeting. The conference ad journcd at 1:30 p.m. Local members of the Mor mon Church served as hosts for the out-of-town youths Saturday night, and the Kla'nath Falls Ward provided sack lunches for the guests to cat on their trip home the next afternoon.
