KU Band To Play At Frisco The Klamath Union High School marching band has been invited to be one of the feature hands to provide timeout and quarter - time music at t h e Shrine East-West football game in San Francisco Dec. 28. The band will also be partici pating in the pre-game pagean try and half-time activity. This will be the ninth time the band has attended this an nual foothaH classic, and Klam ath Falls has received consid erable favorable publicity from the band's efforts. Members of the band have been working this year on their annual fruit cake sales project. Proceeds from this project go into Hie band's East-West game fund. LaMar K. Jensen, direc tor of instrumental music, es timated the cost of the trip this year to be $3,000, Band pa trons, business firms and other interested persons wore asked to contribute to the band's East West game fund by sending their checks to Jensen, Klamath 'Union High School. Shasta Drive Will Aid Needy MOUNT SHASTA-Community Aid is now staging its annual drive for clothing and food for needy persons in the area. The elementary school PTA is also assisting. All items collected may be taken to the Methodist Evangel ical Church, corner of South A and Ida streets, where they will be sorted. MISSED THE DATE - This Easter Lily bloomed last Easter. The plant was set out in the yard at the home of W. C. Hooper, 2355 Orchard Way. It showed signs of blooming this fall and after temperatures dropped, Hoop er covered it with a common cardboard box and used a small lighted light bulb for greenhouse care. It now has three full blooms and four large buds. Mrs. Gordon Grove, daughter of W, C. Hooper, displayed plant to Herald and News cameraman, Don Kettler. Criticism Of Applause Leads To Resignation WOODLAND, Ca. (l'PI The principal of a grammar school has resigned after refusing to back down from his criticism of students' applause at the news of President John F. Kennedy's assassination. Joseph Parham, in a leter to the Atlanta Constitution, charged that "a parent, who by flaunting the law. tolerating hatred and scorning justice, brings a child to hate ..." He said criticism touched off by the letter was "almost unbear able." Tile Woodland City Council passed a resolution censuring Pailiam and declaring his letter "does not adequately express tiie attitude of the Wccdland people." Talbot County School Super intendent Ilujih Dixon said Par-, ham "has ended his usefulness here." In the letter Parham said that 11-and 12-year-old students applauded when told of the late President's death. Parham refused to appear at a Parent Teacher Association meeting Thursday night at the urging of Talbot County offi cials "to apologize" for the let ter. He said he resigned, effective immediately, because "the ten sions, misunderstandings and animosities would be greatly lessened by my absence." Girl Scout Council Slates Tuesday Meet At Lakeview LAKE-VIEW The board of canceled due to the closing of the Lake County Girl Scouts Council will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 8 p.m., at the home of Mrs. G. W. Thornburg. Board members are urged to attend this important meeting. Tlie Girl Scout Council will meet sometime during the week of Dec. 16. with the exact time and date to be announced later.
