Hiis was the word from the mile-high campus Tuesday as the Oregon Tech Owls made ready for their Homecom ing contest set for Saturday af ternoon against the Oregon Col lege Wolves at Modoc Field. It was an inspired band of Owls taking the field against the strong Southern Oregon Col lege Red Raiders last Saturday night at Ashland and moving to a 14-0 halftime lead before suc cumbing to the vastly more experienced Raiders in the sec ond half. Undaunted. Owls are now set ting their sights on the Wolves and an attempt to begin a sal vage job of the entire season by posting their second win of the season at the expense of the Monmouth eleven. The last win for the Owls over the Wolves came in 19&) when a 26-13 triumph was recorded over Bill McArthur's club. In 1961 the teams played to a 7-7 standoff and last year it was a 27-7 vic tory for the Wolves. Returning for the Wolves are a pair of gridders who made things difficult for Ron Pheis tor's Owls last year. These are halfback Frank El lis and and Steve Jackson. The Owls improved their de fense and in particular pass de fense tremendously last week end against the Raiders, with Sonny Luke receiving just praise for his work. In intercepting three Bill Bai ley aerials, the talented Luke also set up one of the two Owl scores and tallied the other TD on an interception run. The Owls will seek to re tain this pass defense for the Wolves and add to their rushing defense as well as overall offen sive power in practice sessions. The Homecoming fray is set for 1:30 p.m. at Modoc Field, with another large crowd in at tendance. Thus far this year, although winning only one of five outings, the Owls have doubled the at tendance figure through their wide-open style of play over last year. His four goals gave Denver a 6-2 win over San Francisco and pushed the Invaders to the top of the youthful Western Hockey League race. It was the only Western Hock ey League action of the night. Based upon the records of the respective teams, it figures to be an interesting contest. The Grizzlies just having end ed a 13-game losing streak and the Pelicans currently mired in a seven-game losing skein In cluding the final tilt of live 1962 season. Coach John Gray's Ashland Grizzlies come to Modoc Field Friday night with a new of fense, a now spirit and a new coach to match. Gray took over the reins of the Grizzlies this year after hav ing been in tlie Ashland system for several years. . Under the new mentor, t h c Grizzlies dropped tlie first two meetings of the season to Shas ta High of Redding, Calif., and Lebanon respectively before stopping their losing streak which had reached 13 at the ex pense of Sweet Home. Suite the third game of the season, the Grizzlies have met and defeated Yreka and last weekend lost their opening con ference contest to Grants Pass, 39-8. Bob Williams' Pels arc in the throes of a seven-game loss streak extending to the final game of last year when the Bend Lava Bears handed tlie Pels a 19-7 setback.
