Nuts Ideal Quick Snack ' An assortment of nuts makee a welcome snack at any time and is :well worth including in shopping .'plans (or a party or that "some ; thing special" for after dinner. -Nuts are a perfect food to serve .'in a hurry when guests drop in 'unexpectedly. The nutrition and 'quick energy values they offer : also make them ideal for the be . tween-meal snacks with soft drinks that active children like. And there are no untidy leftovers to worry about. Nuts will stay fresh much longer than most peo ple can resist eating them. These days, shelled mixed nuts are available in cans in almost every food store, ready to eat so that you don t have to strug gle with a nut cracker. ; And every can opens up a min iature travel adventure in good eating from the world's largest pecan orchard near El Paso, Tex., through the lush Brazilian jungle and on to Africa and India. To make the choicest selection of nuts available, American man ufacturers take a global view of their business. Circus Foods, of San Francisco, or example, draw on the resources of many con tinents tor its cans of mixed nuts. It buys filberts from Oregon and Turkey; cashews from India and Africa; Brazil nuts from South America; and walnuts from California. Brazil nuts grow almost ex clusively along the Jungle tribu taries of the mighty Amazon Riv er on trees towering ISO feet above the ground. From that height, the thick, tough skinned pods fall with such force that often they bury themselves in the earth and have to be dug out. A few blows with a machete will open the pods so that IS to 30 nuts spill out. But you don't need a machete to crack the nut Most nut companies do the job by machine before packaging them (or sale. With chopped nuts, you can make even your favorite desserts more attractive. They are delight ful sprinkled on ice cream, or whipped cream served over gela tin desserts, and as a topping on irosted cakes. n smau corx giucu 10 uie insioe of your sewing box Is a good place to store your thimble.
