Sandwich Time
Plus Soup Bowl
When lime is of the essence
spring housecleaning, gardening,
etc., to be done . . . quick meals

popularity.
Be prepared for this "perfect-

stocked pantry shelf. Chose

condensed soups: numerous
canned or packaged sandwich

fare is springtime split pea soup,
open-face cheese sandwich, and

SPRINGTIME SPLIT PEA SOUP
2 tablespoons chopped green,
onion
1 tablespoon butter or mar
garine
1 can UO3! ounces! con
densed split pea with ham
soup
1 soup can water
'i cup chopped fresh tomato
In saucepan, cook onion in but
ter until tender. Blend in soup
and water; add tomato. Heat, stir
now and then. Makes 2 to 3 serv

3 slices pumpernickel bread
Mayonnaise
Lettuce
3 slices (about 4 ounces i nat
ural caraway cheese
3 slices 'about 4 ounces)
Swiss cheese
Dill pickle slices
Spread bread with mayonnaise;
cover with lettuce. Top each sand
wich with a slice of paraway and
Swiss cheese. Garnish with dill
pickle. Makes 3 open-face sandwiches.
For party fare serve this soup

TOMATO CHICKEN DLET
'3 cup chopped cucumber
I tablespoon chopped green
onion
1 tablespoon butter or mar
garine 1 can H4 fluid ounces' chick
en broth

densed tomato soup
1 cup water
In saucepan, cook cucumber and,
onion in butter until tender. Stir
in chicken broth, tomato soup,
and water. Heat; stir now and
then. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
EGG AND WATERCRESS
SANDWICHES
3 hard-cooked eggs, chopped
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons chopped watercress
1 tablespoon chopped radish
2 teaspoons minced onion
3 teaspoon prepared mustard
Dash pepper
I Crisp lettuce
8 slices buttered whole w heat
bread
In small bowl, mix eggs, may
onnaise, watercress, radish, onion.

about U cup egg mixture in 4
slices bread; arrange lettuce on
top. Cover with additional bread
slices. Cut each sandwich into

FRANKFURTERS GRILLED
IN FOIL

8 frankfurters
Foil
i cup Burgundy or other red
dinner wine
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1-3 cup catsup
2 tablespoons pickle relish
4 thin slices lemon
Cut inn surface of each frank
furter on the diagonal about three
limps. Plarp two frankfurters on
each of four squares of foil. Com
bine wine, mustard, catsup, ana
nirkle relish. Sixion on ton of
meat; place lemon slice on top of
ieach. Close and seal foil pacKeis.
Grill over charcoal lor bake in a
hot oven. 400 degrees K.I about
120 minutes.
