Thursday, May 23, 13 Student City Officials Ask improved Parking DUNSMUIR An improved parking area at the Dunsmuir ball park and city park entrance, im-i proved lighting of this parking lot and the community swimming pool, and strict enforcement of the speed limit in these two congested areas were called for by student officials at the Student Govern ment Day Council meeting Morv day night. The present condition of t h e ballpark parking area was deemed a poor advertisement for the city and a hazard to automobiles by city eouncilmen, Kenneth Steph ens, Walter Tausch, Gene Landoe Jean Chappcll and Mayor Iretii Ilea. The council hesitated over (lie cost of proper drainage and blacktopping of the parking lot, estimated at $2,000 by John Petty, street superintendent, and passed an encompassing resolution with out specific steps. The students functioning as city officials also believed "Yield Right of Way" signs should be placed at two intersections felt to be hazardous. Twenty-five miles per h o u r, ; strictly enforced, was rccommend ; cd (or Park Avenue traffic in the ballpark-swimming pool vicinity which is heavily used by teen-age drivers. . The regular council convened immediately following the Student Government session and approval was given the student resolution. Police and public works com missioners were asked to present specific action at the next council meeting. In other business, the council adopted a $177,989 budget for the 19S3-li4 fiscal year. This is $4,615 over the estimated income of $173- :t74, and strict economics in all departments will be needed, .May. or David Anderson commented af ter all commissioner eouncilmen insisted their budgets would stand no specific cuts. No action was taken on t h e pending freewuy agreement. May or Anderson commented, after a prolonged discussion on effects of an interchange in north Duns muir on the city's economy, that he cannot see why the state is in such a hurry to spend 1 and Vt million dollars to channel traffic from one portion of Dunsmuir to another.
